So I have just picked up a hvx200 and I am trying to put some footage that I shot onto my computer. I have switch to 1394 device like everyone says and I still can't get the p2 to mount to the desktop.

I have final cut pro 5.0.4 and under the import tab it does read 'panasonic p2' so I know it is capable of reading the card.

Help please.

Is that MacBook Pro an Intel Mac?

If so, FCP 5.0.2 is not compatible with it.

I don't I believe you can get the drivers installed from Panasonic's web site to work with 5.0.4.

Time to upgrade to an Intel compatible version.

You don't need any drivers if you just want to connect via FireWire.

Be sure the camera is set in "1394 device" mode, not "host" mode.

Connect FireWire with the camera off and the Mac on. Turn on camera, and move it to PC mode (MCR, then hold down the button for about three seconds).

P2 card should show up in the Finder. This will allow you to drag and drop to a disk drive, not Log & Transfer.

To L&T, you would stay in MCR mode, and set FCP to "uncontrollable device"' then you have to start the camera playback manually.
