Hello guys. I've got the DVX100B. So yeah, I'm in a pickle. My main computer that has firewire capabilities is out of reach because it's being repaired. All I'm left with is a Microsoft PC laptop and an IONGEAR firewire hub. I plugged the camera correctly into the firewire hub, and the firewire hub into the USB ports on my computer. Well I have a problem. When it's connected, it recognizes and detects the Firewire hub...but not the camera. When I go into Movie Maker, it says "Could not detect video capture device" and whatnot when I go to capture. I've got a project due in a week, so this is urgent! Please help me! Thanks.

You aren't going to have any luck with a USB-based FireWire hub. It's converting the FireWire to USB, which is not compatible with DV editing.

You need to have a dedicated FireWire port installed. If you have a card bus like PCMCIA, you can get a FireWire card on the cheap for that.

Do you have To disassemble anything to install the PCMCIA? Thanks guys.

Check the sides of your laptop. There should be a large port for an expansion card. It's just a simple matter of inserting the card and installing the drivers. I've seen FW cards for laptops going for $20 lately.

Ok Ty. So do I need a Pcimcia card bus and a FireWire card....or???? I appreciate it, you guys are awesome.

The PCMCIA FireWire card goes into the slot. Period. Take your laptop with you to the shop... they'll get you the appropriate card.

Thanks. Thing is, though, I live in a small town with like no pc shops, so I'm going to try to buy online. I appreciate your help c2v

You have to make sure of what kind of a slot you have. You may not have a PCMCIA slot and you may have only an ExpressCard slot. You can get firewire cards for either, but you have to make sure of which one you have. If it's a newer laptop, you may have only ExpressCard.

Yeah, it's newer. I don't really care which, as long as there's Firewire for it. I'll see when I get home. I'm mobile right now, or I would research this myself. Is there any specific way you can tell which it is? Thanks.

If you have the original box and/or paperwork, it should be listed. Or, you can open your system profile on your desktop and it should tell you which card type you'll need. Or check the manufacturer's website for your particular model (and generation).

Alright. I'll check it out when I get home. I'm very thankful for the support. You guy are all very helpful.

EDIT: Just found out it uses Express Card

Now I have to find out the right card ports to match my cord
This is my exact cord. Can anybody find an ExpressCard Firewire that would work for this? It's 6-pin I believe.
