Help me with finding a lens! (If you have some free time)

Starting off, Merry Christmas to all you dvxusers! I don't post much but I really do enjoy reading everyones comments on shooting with DSLRs. From the struggles, successes and everything ya'll go through while shooting media like I love to do myself! Currently I'm in Australia and editing tons of footage from a big road trip of the east coast.

During the road trip I was using a Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 which I personally own. Great lens as many of you know! Also, however, I was able to use a Cannon EF-S 18 - 135mm MARCO 0.45M/1.5FT on my road trip as well. Being able to use the Cannon lens to really zoom into details that the Tokina obviously couldn't capture really helped. I enjoyed the big rack focus as well. The Cannon lens is not mine though which brings me to the reason of the post!

What is a "good/best" lens that is around the 18-135 mm mark that has a low FSTOP number for good low light and that can contain constant aperture (if they exist in my price range) as the Cannon EF-S 18 didn't.

My budget is around 500 dollars U.S.

I'm using the search bar to find information on a good lens and doing research through the web, I just wanted to get some good personal input from you guys on my own forum post.

The[h=1]EF 70-200mm f/4L USM[/h]
looks pretty interesting. Currently I'm really trying to be versatile with my shooting and all the L lenses really catch my attention. Obviously there all pricey but this one seems to be entry level. Anyone have any experience with this lens compared to the other L series? For now I'm focused on media consisting of action sports and real life situations and people. With this focus I feel like investing in a zoom lens will fit the need until I'm able to really plan productions and have prime lenses planned out.

Anybody have any comments or experience on the matter, I know I'm repeating myself, I'm just curious to hear feedback.

Also, I'm really into shooting low light situations and scenes so this lens really goes against that, it's crazy how to gain the 2.4 fstop you really got to shell out a lot more cash!
