help me induce CA and barrel distortion for a 10-22 vs 11-16 test

I'm planning a test fairly soon as I really want to compare CA and barrel distortion between the
Canon EFs 10-22mm and the Tokina 11-16mm f2.8.

I won't have any talent available only still life so I was thinking of using a soccer ball to help
measure barrel distortion as it is roughly the size of a human head. I also want some high contrast
in there so I can see chromatic aberration. If you want to recommend anything for this test post
your ideas.

Barrel distortion is usually most noticeable in architecture. A soccer ball would be the exact wrong thing to use to check barrel distortion, because it's round. Shoot something square, and get vertical lines up against the sides of the frame.

And CA is usually most noticeable at wide-open apertures.

Thanks for the recommendation Barry. I'll put something square on the other side of the frame near the edge then.
There is a reason I am specifically choosing a soccer ball - it's because I shoot narrative / short films - person would be best
but it's either a ball or a mannequin and I don't have a mannequin.

To see the full barrel distortion, you'll want lines running parallel to the frame for most if not the full length of the frame. Brick walls provide the most visibility of this kind of distortion. However, I would strongly encourage you to not just shoot test subjects but similar scenes to what you intend to film and see what the effects are there - most of the time it's invisible unless you have those strong lines parallel to the frame.
