hey people, i'm a newbie on lenses and i need your help...
i'm planning to shot a short movie using the canon 7D, and i want to get a cinema look, wide, great colors… i'm going to use some outside shots during the night and some during day on the beach. the rest of the story is inside a bar, and i want to get a chromatic result on some shots.
looking on the web evebody talks about the tokina, i'm thinking in get one, one carls zeiss (because of the colors) and a canon? i will have a action scene on the final and i want to get a crazy look, can you recommend me others cheap lenses?

sorry for my "bad" english.

I personally really like Super Takumar Lenses. They can be had for a good deal on ebay or elsewhere.

It depends on if you want super contrast images out of the camera or not. the Takumars have less contrast and a more vintage feel, but really have a great feel and are wonderful for manual focusing.

If you don't need to go super wide like 11mm you could go with a tamron 17-50mm 2.8 VC or canon 17-55mm 2.8 IS, the canon is not very cheap but if you're willing ti pay 600 for the tokina you might look at these 2 lenses. the Tamron is cheaper but people really like it and the canon is more expensive but a wonderful lens as well with a longer focus throw than the Tamron.

It's something to consider if you feel that 17mm is wide enough for your needs.

If you want winder, then I'd say get the tokina then maybe a canon 28mm 1.8 or sigma 30mm 1.4 as your normal FOV lens, or a Super Takumar 35mm f2.

then something to complement your telephoto. Lots of 80mms out there or you can get a inexpensive 50mm 1.4 prime and use that as more of close-up lens.

I knew nothing about the Tokina 11-16 and I have a Tamron 17-50. While I have been pleased with the bang for the buck with the Tamron, I borrowed my friends Tokina.

The Tokina is a spectacular lens, I was blown away by the sharpness and color. I am a cheap person but I have to recommend spending twice as much for the Tokina. It is awsome.

Sorry, not to veer of course, but I have a question.

Do you mean the Tokina 11-16 is twice as much as the Tamron 17-50?

I thought the Tokina was ~$600 and the Tamron was $100-150 less, VC/no VC.

My attempt to remain on course: The Tokina IS an amazing lens. From build to picture, it is a diamond tank.
