FEATURE: "HEART OF NOW" – a film by SABI

I like the way you think. I'm sure you'll have a lot of tips to share when you start down the self-distribution route. Kinda bummed I won't get to see it for another year but hey, I'll buy a copy whenever it becomes available.

And yeah, now I see the resemblance to Nicole Kidman too. :)
 
hey zak, love your work! thank you for sharing all of these great stories about what went into the making of a feature film. really great stuff.

may i ask a question? what is the shoulder mount set up you guys used on this picture? i'm gearing up for a micro budget feature and i need a nice handheld set up.

wait until i get this documentary on the making finished. there will be nothing left to know.

i would recommend the Zacuto (which is what we used). it puts the bulk of the camera's weight on your shoulder eliminating the strain of doing handheld camerawork. it's worth the expense. two spiderbraces broke during preproduction. the dvrigpro hd was way too front heavy and using that support rod attached to the belt is... unrealistic.
 
I spoke to Zach Seivers yesterday and we are both excited about doing the sound design on Heart of Now this fall. I told him we have a “soft” picture lock on the first reel. And the purpose of keeping it “soft” is to encouraged additional thought into the sound design process. If suddenly an opportunity presents itself to improve the film based on choices made in the sound design that require tweaks to picture, I don’t want to stifle that. And neither does Jamie. And we won’t.

As for her, Jamie is doing a revision pass on her cut and has a very solid first 14 minutes cut. And it is killing me not to share it with all of you. I’m very happy with it.
 
Loved the trailer it would have been nice to hear some dialogue but awesome camera work and great camera.I really liked the music though.

on the topic of HEART OF NOW, a live fly-on-the-wall broadcast from the editing bay begins tomorrow at 12noon pacific or 3pm on the east coast and will run all day.
