FEATURE: "HEART OF NOW" – a film by SABI

I want to thank the asshole, who hid behind a "guest" handle and made the "why would you let a woman edit your movie" comment. i wanted to offer a unique glimpse into the post process and some amateur wannabe comes in and pisses me off. i'm now shutting down the broadcast. well done, f*ckface.

you owe my editor an apology. and i owe you a punch in the face.

and let me answer your question, "why would i let a woman edit this movie".

Jamie is a highly attentive, nurturing editor. She has great sensitivity for the intellectual and emotional lives of these characters. Truly a student of the Walter Murch method, her choices and intuition have been revealing, sometimes bringing forth a better, more layered scene than I had intended. She mines through the takes, experimenting with their potential, leaving no possibility unexplored.

Jamie is an amazing artist that is able to engage with this film on levels i cannot, by the mere fact that she, like the main character, is a young woman.

I hope that satisfies your inquiry, you f*cking child.

Sorry I missed the webcast and sorry the twerp made the ignorant comment. All the more ignorant considering that some of the greatest film editors in movie history have been women. Almost all of them in the silent era were...

f*ck that guy. you should put the feed back up. don't let one rotten apple spoil it for the rest of us! this is such a cool idea, quite a shame i've missed out. :(

Wow. Some people just say some really stupid stuff. Sorry that happened Zak and sorry we wont get to see more of the editing process. Stupid people suck.

Interesting insight as to why a woman would actually be a better editor for this though. Never really thought about the editor connecting with the characters but it makes perfect sense.

Zak -

Are you KIDDING ME? In this day and age some idiot remarks about the gender of the editor? That's BEYOND idiotic. Sounds like Dabney Coleman from 9 to 5.

There are some great people on DVXuser. There are also some morons who should know when they're opinion is so horribly old-fashioned, so horribly wrong, so horribly immoral that they should shut their piehole and leave the filmmaking to people who breath with their mouth closed.

Oh, if the sexist jerk who made that remark is reading this, listen up...

...my investor, producer, co-writer and art director are women. Why do I work with them? Because they're damn good at their job.

I hope the sexist jerk's wife beats him on a regular basis. I hope she just wails on his ass and says things like "get me a friggin' beer, jackass. I'm watching Oprah and you're not done with the laundry until I say you're done, got it piss-boy?"

i missed out on all of this, definitely bummed I didn't get to tune it before it got shut down. don't take this the wrong way (and I don't know what all was said, so forgive me if I'm off base here), but if someone logged in just to talk smack and leave stupid remarks wouldn't you think that by shutting it down for everyone else he's getting exactly what he was looking for? don't give in to the terrorists!

anyways good luck with everything zak and jamie

Zak,

Too bad you had to shut down the webcast. I would love to see someone elses studio space while in progress.

It's really a shame someone needed to make that comment. To add: My friend "V" is an amazing girl, and an amazing cinematographer. She edits up a storm and can run so many things at once I am amazed. Honestly I don't know how she hasn't worked herself to death yet. She amazes me everyday. And she has more talent than whoever made that comment ever will.

thanks for the kind words, guys. i don't know if we'll bring it back or not. but practically speaking, that little event got inside my editor's head and I had to resolve it quickly so she could re-immerse herself in the work without wondering what else was being said about her.

next time, i will likely contact everyone privately, instead of announcing it here. if you'd like to be notified next time it goes live, please register at the site, or sign-up on the private mailing list... here.

thanks guys!

Please, tell your editor that the world is full of morons. Honestly, anyone who questions why a woman is hired as an editor is such an idiot that they should be immediately dismissed. Scorsese's been working with Thelma Shoonmaker since they were in film school together.

I think it sucks that you and your team were trying to do something valuable for the independent film community and some jackass has to ruin it.

Zak,

Let me know if I managed to register for your mailing list. I tried and nothing really happened aside from the form clearing. No clue if I was supposed to get a confirmation or not?

I just spoke to Jamie. the sentiment expressed here by everyone has really lifted her spirits. she's still open to offering a "window" into her bay and process... "just not tomorrow," she said. :)
