I have a dilemna about what camera to use. I could afford to shoot with the RED ONE. I'd be renting it from Indierentals.com along with one of there lens packages. but two things: it's likely the DP will be inexperienced with the Red which is a big unknown. second, if I shot on the HVX200 with a 35mm adapter, i could do a lot more days where it's just me, minimal crew and one or two actors out in the city somewhere, picking up scenes guerrila style. you know, if i commit to the HVX200, i could go out and shoot today. grab some timelapse of the city, b-roll, stuff like that.
what would you do? ridiculous picture quality? or a little more freedom to run and gun. i'm not crazy about using both.
autobiographical? not directly... but I do keep returning to themes: losing a parent to cancer for example. but in my case, it was my father. so let's say yes, i take a good look at my dysfunctions in life and love and allow the characters to confront the same issues, though the specifics may change.jkc123 said:The story sounds great, is it (auto)biographical by any chance?
blue in green has run its course. the group that made it (unica) has disbanded, although we see each other frequently -- played poker tonight with two former members. it played in some small festivals, we got some great notices in the LA Times and LA Weekly. we were invited to play at the American Cinematheque. that was the highlight for me. most of the audience was there because of what they read about the film -- not friends and family this time, you know? I remember Cheri Oteri showed up?!?! We did a Q&A and for the first time, i felt like a filmmaker -- like what I had done was validated by an audience that "got it" and genuinely liked it and not because they knew me or someone that worked on it.jkc123 said:Also, whatever happened to Blue in Green?
The trailers looked awesome and I would love to see the movie.
Best of luck with the new project.
that's interesting. it iscapturing a texture of having shot thru a piece of glass. one of my favorite films is double life of veronique. the DP shot thru an interesting array of custom made glass filters to distort and give form to the image. something about the glassiness appeals to me. if feels more organic i guess than the idea of straight, clean, error free digital video.Kholi said:I, personally, am not a fan of the "glassy" texture the Brevis and M2 adds. Which is why I want to move toward a Letus or an SGpro but if the look suits your footage, then the choice SHOULD be an adapter and the tried and trusted HVX.
Get to it!
