FEATURE: "HEART OF NOW" – a film by SABI

We will be partnering with a variety of distribution companies who do their own area of expertise very well, while growing and nurturing a community of fans, friends and followers via social networks.

The distro strategy keeps evolving. Basically, its framework is to hit these windows with anywhere from 2 to 6 months in between each:

  • Submit to Top Tier Festivals and Garner Reviews
  • Announce Platform Release (at a film festival when press is watching)
  • Theatrical Tour / Direct DVD Sales (a dozen or so theatrical events in different cities)
  • License Theatrical, Broadcast and DVD rights to Foreign Territories at AFM and Cannes
  • VOD (video on demand via cable tv and internet - time-warner, ifc vod, amazon vod, netflix streaming)
  • Retail DVD (netflix, walmart)
  • Premium Cable (showtime, hbo, starz, etc)
  • Cable (IFC, Sundance Channel, etc)

These are the rights a filmmaker has to offer. It used to be that you sold all of these rights to one distributer. but our plan is it to work each of these individually while retaining the right to do direct sales of DVDs and merch from our own distro company, CINEFIST.

Sounds really good Zak!

How are you going to do the theatrical tour? Will you arrange each viewing directly with the theaters and promote the event yourself?

Maaaannnn, how long will I have to wait to get my own DVD ??? :) I really want to see it... now. Heart of NOW.

I just hope it doesn't end up like 2012, where the teasers got me really excited for like TWO YEARS and then the actual movie... well. Ya know.

Seriously- I wish you the best of luck in this process of pimping your baby, and however long it takes, I will be happy to pick up a dvd as soon as it is available. I doubt you'll be screening anywhere in the mountains here, but if so, I'll be there. (btw- they just re-opened a classic old theater in Rutland, not too far from your fam here. what'd'ya say, huh??)

Best of luck! Can't wait to see it.

Austin? mmm I live in Norman, OK and have been looking for forward to this movie for some time. So if you don't want to bring it to a theatre in Oklahoma I might have to make the drive to Austin...It better be worth it Zak!

Some new videos...

Heart of Now used to demonstrate the development of Open Indie.

and my appearance on Film Snobbery.

Zak,

I missed the showing in LA. I wanted to ask, what are you looking at in terms of distribution. Are you just working the festival circuit now, and waiting it out?

We are ramping up to an August 2010 direct-to-audience release creating several windows. During that ramp up, we have gone out to several festivals. If one accepts us, great; we can incorporate them into our release strategy. but we are not relying on them.

Instead, we are talking to several companies who specialize in cable vod, itunes, netflix, etc for aggregation. Theatrical and home video (dvd, blu-ray) will be handled by our own company CINEFIST. And the windows of release are as follows, and each window will be launched with a live theatrical event.

WINDOW ONE (premiere, events, home video, cable)
Event-based Theatrical Tour (using Open Indie and Crowd Controls)
DVD, Blu-ray
Cable VOD

WINDOW TWO (download)
iTunes EST (electronic sell thru $9.99)
XBOX
PS3 Store

WINDOW THREE (rental and streaming)
iTunes VOD
Netflix DVD Rental
Amazon VOD
YouTube Rental

WINDOW FOUR (subscription, ad supported, and free)
Netflix SVOD (aka Watch instantly)
IndieFlix (subscription service)
Hulu (ad supported)
Vodo (free torrent)
