HDV Split wont capture whole tape...

for some reason, HDVSplit jumps time when capturing with my A1, meaning, the time counter during capture will be counting up to16:44:06 while capturing (for instance), then it'll suddenly go to --:--:--, then start at 00:00:00, but it stops capture at that point. then i'll rewind the whole tape and try to recapture the entire tape, but it'll only capture the first part of the tape until the counter reaches 16:44:06 on this particular tape, when i know there is about 40 mins of footage on the tape.....is my A1 counter to blame?....do i have to reset something in my cam?

not sure if i explained this clearly enough.

this has happened with 2 tapes now, and only since i started using HDVSplit to capture....

any advice would be treasured

thank you,
Chris

Does your tape have a timecode break on it? (If you play it back on the camera, do you ever see a blank blue screen where there is no timecode?) I don't know anything about HDVSplit, but most capture devices have trouble with timecode breaks. Try capturing the part before the break and after the break separately.

yes, i do get a blue screen at times....not sure why though, because the A1 is supposed to resume recording after the very last frame previous. but it makes sense that this is the case, so i will try your suggestion. thank you for the response!

The time code breaks are created if you review your footage, then record some more. Unless you stopped your playback before the end of the previous time code, there will be a gap.

You could also stripe your blank tapes, but I don't think many people do that anymore.

probably not, since i'm over 30 and have never heard of it...haha...your input makes sense though, but i never review my footage in cam....if i forget where i left off after not shooting for a week or so, i'll always do an "end search" before i shoot. could this be causing the same issue?
