I was checking this out, B&H says they're discontinued, but their website is still up and running and selling these things. Now, if say I have a switronix battery on the back of my 7D rig powering this thing, would this be a good solution for dual monitor mode? They also have a 4-way splitter model.

Is anybody successfully using splitters or distribution amplifiers for dual monitoring with their 7D? For me it is not working very well. Haven't tried with 2 monitors of the same size yet, but with a 24" and a small top mounted monitor it doesn't seem to work very well. The image on the bigger monitor display at the same size as the smaller one for some reason, which makes the bigger monitor close to useless.

a friend purchased a non-powered splitter and tested it today on the 7D. The result is blue noise... perhaps it means it's not amplified with enough power.

So does it work as a dual monitoring solution with the 7D? What monitors are you using with i? Does it behaves the way I described above? Thanks.

Do you recomend the switronix battery? I am thinking about doing something like this too...

I dont use my splitter for monitoring camrea, i use mine for splitting out an HD video game feed before it does into a capture box.

just looked at monoprice. they no longer carry the model i use, but the ones they have on there now are cehaper and look smaller AND better. they have one that runs on 5v power that looks great.

The splitter arrived today. Here's a pic of it working:

This is output from the 7D into the splitter. It takes the monitors between 4 and 12 seconds to display the signal whenever I switch modes (Live View to Playback or to Menus, etc).

Sound and Video are both functioning. Some folks have mentioned issues with splitters not carrying the audio, but that seems fully functional on this unit.

The one problem I have is with aspect ratio. As we all know, when the 7D is connected to a single monitor (no splitter) and you are in Live View mode, the image output to the monitor will be larger or smaller depending on how much "INFO" you have overlayed. With no info the image fills the 16x9 area (or at least sends the proper ratio info to the monitor).

When the splitter is added to the mix the signal from the 7D that relays aspect ratio settings seems to get killed in transit. The end result is that the monitors display the image they are fed as max size, even if the aspect ratio is incorrect. It also means that pressing "INFO" on or off has no effect on the displayed image.

Results may vary from monitor to monitor, but where my Lilliput 8" displays a properly sized image when the splitter is not in use, the image is not the correct ratio when the splitter is in use. It is simply stretched to fill the screen, regardless of what the 7D is displaying at the time.
