GH2 HDMI ProRes 422 external recording

I've heard some rumors about recording the HDMI output of the GH2 with a external recorder to get up to 100mb/s!

after some searching I found this video of a test with the ProRes and the AVCHD footage:

Wish it where true, however your screen grab dosent look very impressive. 100MB...no. Its basically a stream of 17mbits 1080i footage.
The video even stated that the HDMI out is 1080i... which is 17.
Not until the GH2 is modded... maybe HDMI out will be upgraded.

This test does not seem to be reliable.
Apart from the annoying pumping of the auto-focus , it is obvious that the HDMI frames have not been captured /interpreted/processed correctly. The horizontal resolution is clearly half of the AVCHD, as if it was deinterlaced by merely throwing out a field.

HDMI is the only way to get 422 color out of the GH2 - the (hurrah!) gh1(3) has the 422 option with LPowell's /Vitaly'S hack - so it would be interesting to see other HDMI footage from the GH2 posted.

Not true. The GH2's HDMI output is not 4:2:2. It outputs a chroma-screwed-up 4:2:0. You have to process it in post to smooth the chroma out to turn it into something usable, which would be, at that point, 4:2:0.

oh goodness, thanks for the info on the 4:2:2, Barry_Green ! My confusion originates in the title of the post, refering to the ProRes being a 422 CODEC...

Another reason why I will stick with my GH1(3) over picking up a gh2 (which btw have very long delivery waits here in Europa).
