HDMI capture benefits

Sorry if that was threaded already, but I cannot find it fot the SD9:

what exactly are the benefits of capturing from the HDMI out to a Blackmagic Intensity?
Can I avoid AVCHD compression and just decide which compression I want to use with the Intensity?

Is it 4:2:2 HD coming out of the HDMI, and if not, what is it?

What´s the difference between the Pana SD9, and the Canon HF10/100, HV 30?

Cheers

Not enough space to discuss all the differences, but one significant thing sticks out.

The Panasonic uses a global shutter with 1/6-inch 3-CCDs and the Canons use rolling CMOS shutters. Also, the Panasonic will shoot 108024p without pulldown. Of course the HV30 is tape based.

My understanding is that on life captures, going out HDMI directly to the intensity board provides uncompressed.

That's my understanding.

It's uncompressed to the Intensity, yes. As to how the Intensity can record it, that all depends on your hardware -- you'll most likely have to use some manner of compression since it's not easy to record a 200-megabyte per second data stream.

Thank you for the clarification.
I remember your post about Canon HF10-HDMI out, and I think your point was, that we don´t know whats coming out of the HDMI exactly, as it could be 8 bit 4:2:0 from DSP blown up to 10bit 4:2:2 on the HDMI out.

So with the SD9 we know what it is, right?

I have the SD9 now and had the HV20 and sold the HV20 because of the CMOS sensor and how it can't handle vibration and motion. I think that the two images are pretty comperable though.. the HV20 might be a bit better in low-light, but not by much. THE SD9 has much more color information than the HV20 did. The HV20 seemed muted and washed out by comparision. The SD9 matches better to the HVX by far. I have posted a few clips on here showing that.

I haven't captured via HDMI as it requires the special mini HDMI, a major pain, but i have captured through the intensity via the component and it looks great.. and I can convert real time to DVCPRO.. That's a major cool thing right there.

I'm very happy with the SD9, just hope that final cut works out the bugs so I can ingest through that on my laptop...
