HD with vimeo

So I have uploaded some footage to vimeo with my 100a and it doesn't look all that good, no better than youtube. I was wondering how you upload you footage into their HD mode. It says you just have to upload a video that is 1080 or larger, but I have seen numerous peoples videos on their that were uploaded at 720x480, which is the size I would like to use. Any help?

When you upload it at 1080, it resizes it down.. So you need footage at that resolution. You could create a larger format project, and scale the video up..

You aren't shooting HD with a DVX, how do you expect to upload HD? If you upload your DSX footage at 1280x720, it will present it as HD footage, but it will be soft because you are shooting it at 720x480.

You'll have to resize it before uploading. It will encode at the size you send them. I've uploaded stuff from both a DVX and HVX, and my DVX stuff is SD size. It looks a heck of a lot better than YouTube to me. How are you compressing it before you send it to Vimeo?

Go to the Compression FAQ. It'll give you compression guidelines that include 640x480, which is what you're looking for.

I'm not looking for my footage to play at 1280x720. I want it to play at 720x480, which is what the HD videos do.

Don't you mean SD?

I beleive you are wrong, 720 x 480 is SD (Standard Definition NTSC) which is not what the HD Videos do.

I upload on vimeo at 1280 x 720 which is HD for Vimeo...

Exactly. I have over two dozen HD videos on Vimeo, and I've done this with every one of them. Subsample my 1080p down to 720p and supersample my 480p to 720p to get the HD treatment.

Works like a charm.

That is exactly what I wanted to hear.

I can't believe no one else understood the question.

No one understood the question, because you made a false statement. You cannot upload a 720x480 video and have it show up as HD. This is what your post implied. You must render your 720x480 video as 1280x720 and then it will work. It's going to be soft, it's going to lack detail, and it won't be great.

There are tools to make this better, but you just can't make HD from SD, no matter how hard you try.

Nobody understood the question, because you didn't understand what you were asking. 720 x 480 is NOT 720P Hi-Def
