**HD monitor for T3i

I'm looking for a good quality on-board monitor for my T3i. I know you cannot output HD (I think?), but I still want a solid picture and build..I'm thinking about the 5" Marshall.

Thoughts?

Thank you.

Look at the DP6 or Manhattan. I have a 5.7 inch Manhattan with 900 lines of vertical resolution for my 7D and it really helps you get the shot.

Check out SmallHD's DP4 EVF too. It's a brilliant sollution for field use.

I already own the DP-6 and very happy with it. Heard good things about the DP-4 as well, but same deal, a lot of people may choke on the idea of paying as much for a monitor as they paid for their camera. I bought a 5Dmk2 when they were still $2500 so my DP-6 only cost less than 1/2 my camera. Made the sticker shock a little less.

Thanks guys..on a side note, is it possible to output an image onto the LCD screen too while it's being outputted to a monitor? Have both...?

Just wondering...

no. A lot of people are going with wireless HDMI splitters to get two monitors to work. Only budget way I know of.

so its never possible?

Yes, you can absolutely use a monitor. You can get something marginally useful for a couple hundred bucks, or you can get a "good" monitor that will expand the image to fill the screen, have false color, focus assist, etc... for $750 to $1000 dollars.

I got the little Marshall when it was the only "pro"-ish monitor in stock. It's a fine monitor; using AA batteries is not optimal though, you need a charger and several sets.

But it's very nice for the $$, the panel is pro quality with very good viewing angles. A big step up from the "originally made for car DVD player" LCDs.

If you go this route, be sure to get something with blue-only to calibrate it.

And I've used a passive (non-powered) HDMI splitter plenty of times in the studio.
