HD Editing

What hardware can handle such a task? Hardware decoders?

Vid, Mem, hd, Processor specifics would be fantastic!

While FCP 5.1.2 has better P2 support, there is plenty of evidence that FCP 5.1.1 seems to have fewer problems.

In a perfect world, you'd have both on your system, and use FCP 5.1.1 whenever 5.1.2 refuses to open your files.

won't mind hearing those same specs for PC platform. Ideal ram, video card, processor etc. From what i heard Vista won't support it.

I'm editing on a 3.2GHz P4D 840EE with 2GB RAM, a NVIDIA 6600GT, a 7,200 RPM SATA drive for the OS and software, a two-drive RAID 1 array for project assets, and a 10,000 RPM SATA Raptor for the swap file and scratch space.

Using Edius 4 Broadcast, I can edit 3x DVCProHD streams + 3x DV streams + 1x PCM audio stream complete with color correction, transitions etc. in realtime.

I use a P4 3.06HT processor, 2 years old and it struggles with HDV.
DVCProHD though is no problem. I run 3 streams 720p. In 1080i it demands a bit more. I use Edius and have a SATA RAID-0 with two disks.

Quad Core G5 Mac, 4GB RAM, 250GB system drive, 500GB secondary internal drive, 500GB FW Lacie, 1TB FW G-Tech, 30" Cinema HD display, FCP 5.1.2, edit's DVCPRO-HD and AIC without a hitch.

THoff - what problems in particular are you referring to with 5.1.2?
FCP 5.1.2 has intermittent problems with detecting the correct framerate, as well as a complete inability to import some clips. The same clips import fine with FCP 5.1.1.

Correction, 5.1.2 has no problem with frame rates. I find folks just read the info in FCP incorrrectly. I've never hear of FCP every having a problem with frame rate data.

And I had these same problems with 5.1.1, I was hoping 5.1.2 would fix them, it didn't, so it's not an totally immune version.
