Having Trouble Exporting P2 with P2CMS

Hello everyone,

So I have run into another problem, and thought maybe someone could help.

For the first few weeks of owning my HVX, I simply exported off of my P2s onto an external hard drive using host mode, which worked fine for what it is. But after realizing that each time you do this it creates a 32gb partition (for a 32gb card), I decided that I would rather just export footage through P2CMS.

The problem is, that whenever I try and do this, my computer is sent to the screen which tells me that I need to restart my computer, and I end up having to go back to the old way anyway.

So, here are the specifics...
-my camera is in 1394 device mode
-I am using a Macbook with Leopard and using the newest version of P2CMS
- I followed Barry's instructions, choosing my clips and then exporting them
-I export them straight to a folder on the external hard drive, which is connected through USB 2.0
-After a varying amount of time- usually quickly- my computer starts to bog down and then the screen of death turns up.

What am I doing wrong? Does this happen to anyone else? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Ryan

Am I the only one having this problem? I have found some topics on similar trouble with the dual adapter, but can't seem to find any info about this particular problem.

Don't really want to bump this thing to death, but I am kind of running out of options at the moment. Again, if anyone knows anything about this problem, any information would be greatly appreciated.

What "screen of death" are you refering too. Sounds more like a usb problem/external device issue.

it looks like this

hopefully that worked, it is the first time I tried to post a picture

This is weird, try offloading some clips to the internal drive of the macbook, try and rule out whether or not its the external drive or the OS.

Also make sure you're running the latest drivers on the Duel- they are very liberal with the kernal panics- that's what you got there.

Looks like a problem with the USB devices. Could be ram. At what point does the screen pop up. When you start the transfer, when you turn the cam on, 10 min into the transfer, ect.?

Try booting up the system with nothing plugged in, plug in the firewire to the system and cam, turn on the camera, put it in pc mode, then plug in the HDD and turn it on.

If that does not work. Try and do it without the external HDD. Send it to the internal drive. Try one thing at a time and isolate your issue.

Wow, I guess I should have put that screen shot in there to begin with rather than the extremely vague description that I gave in the topic....

First of all, thank you everyone for your replies, they all really mean a lot.

I will go and see if I can isolate the issue like Jimmy Moss and Joe Lawry suggested and get back to you later tonight.

I am running the newest version of P2CMS, so that is not the issue... and I am also not using a duel adapter, which I would expect to be the problem if I was in fact using one, but alas, I can nix both of those.

This Kernel panic has not happened before on my computer and I have tested the ram by using memtest multiple times, so I don't believe that could be the issue. So for now I will hope that the tests tonight come back showing that it was in fact the external hard drive... I will keep everyone updated.

Cheers,
Ryan
