having trouble editing in fcp timeline

Im having a lot of trouble editing footage that i imported into fcp 6. Whats happening is that is the playback is very jumpy and i can play straight through the timeline with out getting the rainbow wheel and it jumping frames. i adjusted the RT to "safe RT" and changed the video playback to "low" and also the playback frame rate to "low." How can i fix this and play thru a clean and smooth timeline.

I imported action sports footage that was captured at 720/60, and then brought fcp 6 thru "log and transfer." then taken into he timeline

what kind of mac are you using?
are you working off your internal drive or an external one?

how full is that drive relative to its size?
if its an external, is it usb, firewire, etc?

What camcorder did the footage come from, and what sequence settings have you set with what video codec?

What dedicated media drive are you using? SATA, Firewire, USB?

What Macintosh are you using?
