Has P2 Genie for WinXP been fixed?

Is it possible to format a 16GB P2 card with P2 Genie now ? If not, when will the fix be released ? Otherwise, what would be the safest way to format it with the laptop? Simply right-click on the drive and format? Another thing: I'm about to buy a laptop, apparently it's better to have XP instead of Vista, can anyone please confirm it ? I haven't yet access to this P2 card, but I would like to ensure a proper workflow before.

Thanks for your help !

AFAIK, the Windows version never had a problem with 16GB cards.

If you want to format P2 card on the PC, you can do it using Windows itself or using P2 Viewer.

Thanks ! As I'm about to buy a laptop and as it's easier to get one with Vista installed, would this be a problem ? I just would like to use the laptop for offloading 16GB P2 cards and then copy them on a Firewire RAID 1 system attached. And I read several times here that XP is more recommanded...

Well, actually there is a problem when using P2 Genie for formatting 16 Gb cards. The thread about it can be found here:

Note that the problem only is only about formatting the card within P2 Genie. There are no problems at all accessing your footage on the card or copying it to your computer.

Unfortunately, so far I haven't heard any news regarding this issue being solved.

XP computers are going to be recommended because they will handle all of the presently available NLE's (for Windows).

I just bought a new laptop about 6 weeks ago (and would not go with Vista because I did not want to have to upgrade all my other software). If you want a laptop with Windows XP go to newegg.com, choose laptops, then over on the lefthand side of the page choose advanced search. If you will indicate Windows XP for the OS choice you will get about a hundred to choose from . . . various prices, brand names. I went with a Toshiba, a friend of mine bought a Sony there last week. Best.

Hi guys. P2 Genie will be updated to support the formatting of P2 16 Gb cards. It will be released within a week or so. All current customers will get an e-mail notification regarding the update. Thanks!

So - now we've finally had time to investigate this problem...

Just to clarify - this is not a problem directly related to 16 Gb cards. It's related to all cameras and P2 cards that have been updated with the most current firmware. The problem is that Panasonic has changed the firmware so that the drivers are intelligently monitoring any changes on the card and flags it when someone deletes or modifies any files on the card.

We've tried to fix this in different ways, but the camera will throw an error if the card isn't formatted properly using the Panasonic P2 Format application.

We're currently looking into reusing the Panasonic modules to format the card properly, but until we've got this working we're suggesting everyone turns off the "erase card" feature within P2 Genie and use either the camera to format or program P2 Format application from Panasonic.

Hey Tony,

good to hear that you are back on tracks,
know that you have been busy for a lot of other things in life....!

It would be great to have a solution here for a new version of P2 genie, also hope the the new version works with a 2.0 netframe-installer.

I see that the developement with the 16Gb must be a drawback to you, but is there a way to say when you will release a new version?
Whats going to be part of it and if the update will be free...!?

Thanks a lot!
