Has anyone ever used these Anamorphic Lens?

thx for the shots, it looks quite similar to the century optics and optex adapters results i get on my hv20 but for a much nicer price.
i will post a few snapshots with the 5D and 7D when mine arrives to report if that's a good fit for 49mm front thread takumar primes

Hey MalfunctioningHuman,
you said there is no softening around edges with your HV40?
Because I've seen it in every video so far where this adapter has been used?! See here a comparison with/without:

So there's really no softening with this adapter on your HV40?

Thx!

this lens on DSLR wont focus on anything else than infinity unless will be modified and its not easy task
Besides its just 1.3 , 1.5 would be nicer

I have no experience with the Century Optics or Optex adapters. I have heard that this lens is a generic version of the Soligor 1.33 adapter that sold a couple of years ago though.

I hope it works well with your lenses, and look forward to your tests!

Hey stip,

I haven't actually processed any video with this setup yet, but I've seen footage of it with the HV40 and it looks supersharp. The footage is from one of the members of this forum. Just do a search using the keywords HV40 and Anamorphic in Vimeo.

Why do you say it won't focus on anything else than infinity? As far as I know that's not correct.

I think that 1.33 is very good actually, because it transforms 16:9 footage to 2.364:1 footage, which is roughly between classic Cinemascope and the new Panavision wide format. If you start with 4:3 footage, then you definitely would want a bigger compression factor though.

yes 1.33x is ideal for instant scope without cropping.
1.5x is less practical for composition in the field with no indication of the safe zone unless you keep the whole picture.
2X is my dearest unsane ultrawide format... not that easy to project in the best condition though

Because i have it and tried on 35mm ,50mm lens and more telephoto.
and 1.3 is not ideal because anamrphic is 2x from 4 perforation square frame , apsc is 3 perforations and it even is not a square. You would still get crop not proper anamorphic stretch on apsc canon sensors because they are cropped tothis 16:9 standard so you dont have bottom and top.ORiginal 3:2 like its for still would be much better in DSLR's for anamorphic.

Like the Pentax K-7 which shoots 3:2 video at 1536 x 1024?!

Fair enough. It seems to focus very nicely using the HV40 stock lens, though.

I'd like to point out that I sent someone some footage yesterday, and he pointed out that this anamorphic lens doesn't seem to actually be a 1.33 lens, but something like 1.25. That's a little disappointing. Otherwise, I still think the lens is a great accessory for the HV40. I guess, based on your comments, its value is much more limited for DSLRs.

@Ian-T: I talked with someone that used this adapter successfully with a T1i, using a 58mm Canon kit lens. Apparently there is no vignetting. You should consider however the focus issues that were mentioned earlier in the thread when using bigger lenses.

.

Are you sure ? CAn you zoom in and still get focus with hv ?
1.3 anamorphic stretch doesnt look impressive on 7D.But i would like to see it with 28mm lens and maybe it shows some anamorphic perspective if its so wide.ON 35mm it looks like almost no difference from 16:9.
2x stretch and 50mm looks much better.

yes and canon could give us options to use aspect ratios and dont just throw out sensor space.
But K-7 is 30p and this is framerate for my cellphone cam or webcam not for serious film making.
How about new request for firmware ?

I bought this lens for my 7d and returned it because you can't get even remotely crisp footage with it. I even stopped my lenses way down and it still was pretty unusable.

Wow, Sucks I almost purchased this lense.... Im Kind of new to cinematography so this intrigues me. Here is a Question:

Are most films Shot in Anamorphic Wide Screen format.

If so, what are some good links to Purchasing these lense adapters? specificaly ones that work on the 7d using both canon pr Nikon Lenses
