HandHeld mic to plug into Canon 60d?

I've heard of people plugging in mics directly into the camera just to do handheld mic interviews. Any ideas?

What do you want to know? I have soldered a lead butchered from a pair of headphones into some Panasonic WM61A electret capsules and found that the plug in power of the camera is adequate to yield a reasonable dynamic range.

In a larger sense, this is pretty common. Cameras with professional-level audio circuitry can handle the job perfectly well. With DSLR, however, you're up against the issues of cheap pre-amps and 1/8" connectivity... plus the lack of monitoring (without some sort of workaraound).

Theoretically, you could connect a wireless receiver straight into the 60D, for use with a wireless hand-held mic/transmitter. For something hardwired, you'd need to adapt the XLR to 1/8" using either a converter (JuicedLink or BeachTek) or a mixer (MixPre-D) that is designed to interface with a DSLR. But you still have the challenge f monitoring from the camera...
