Haiti [Members going to help]

Stay safe, Hawk. Update when you can. Will be counting down from five, so dont be too late letting us know you are safe.

I got relatives in the Dominican Republic. Finally got through to them. They're okay, didn't feel much of it.

how does one enter the country at this point as a individual journalist without any affiliation? fly to DR and enter over land?

Haiti's airport is open, averging 55 flights an hour right now. About a plane a minute landing with some form of relief.

You were "informed" you were going to Haiti? I hope it was a request, and you chose to accept.

I was "offered" an hour after the quake hit, and declined.
I've shot too many hurricanes, earthquakes and disasters, and this one is of epic proportions to a country and a people that could least take it.

I see you're leaving tomorrow at 6 am, so you probably won't see this, but if you're there for any length of time, I'm hoping you got your shots: tetanus, cholera, something like Doxycycline for malaria.

We'll be looking for reports on how it went.

Good luck, be safe, and I hope your images and your NPO can help.

Yeah, sorry about any misunderstanding. They really needed a camera guy to go with them on this trip. There's two of us there. I accepted. My job wasn't in jeopardy for it.

I hope to be back posting by Thursday of next week. But I get in Wednesday evening, and I have to be at work the next day at 8AM. Awesome. We're being interviewed by some news crew. I'm not actually excited about that. I prefer to be on the other side of the lens.

For those that pray, I ask you to remember us as we travel. More importantly, remember Haiti. They're in a world of pain. I'll catch you guys in a week!

Sorry for my previous outburst so to speak.

Prayers to all of those in need, and my most gracious thanks to Hawk, and all who have helped these poor people in any way they can to get through this tragedy.

Dude... I just got a call 5 minutes ago.

"Hi... it's ____. How are you? Um... do you want to go back to Haiti?"

I said "absolutely"...

I find out in an hour and a half if I'm going there Sunday. In the last 10 minutes I found a replacement shooter for the gig I had booked... so on Sunday I'll either be starting another crazy batch of memories... or twiddling my thumbs... but for now I've got my fingers crossed.

I think I can do as much good as my body is capable of... even beyond video/audio. I hope I post later on that I'm going for certain.

My previous post was a little deeper then you realize... I was holding back. When I returned from Haiti last time (when there wasn't a disaster)... I was really sad for a couple weeks.

This one's gonna' be a life-changer to make the last one seem like a picnic... for you and me both (if I get to go).

Never turn down an opportunity like this... Scared? Yes... but with no fear there's no courage. You won't regret it.

Well... it's 7 hours since that post... I've been in downtown STL all day... watched a producer buy me a ticket and then give me a long list of details that are serious deal-breakers.

My mind is blown by the irony of my "I want to go" post... then 24 hours later being offered a gig to go... spending all day making that possible... only to get the crucial details at the very end of the day, which would have kept me editing all day thinking "hmm... almost".

Good luck Hawk.

looking forward to hearing from you guys down there. best of luck and stay safe... desperation can bring out the best and worst in people.

Donate $10 to the American Red Cross for Haiti via text. Just send "HAITI" to 90999

It shows up on your phone bill.

Hawk - Not sure if you'll be able to read this while you're in Haiti but please try to find us a local Haiti charity that you feel is trustworthy. My charity here in Thailand is raising a sizable amount of funds for the earthquake relief and we'd like some one, whose been there, to suggest an organization (big or small). Either that or we might decide to hold onto the funds and open up our own location there (once it's more stable).

Thanks and take care of yourself.

God Speed, the boards as you know are here for you when you get back. Stay focused on the work, when your home process what you witness, what ever you experience or see keep your thoughts good, be an inspiration, as your actions are doing right now.

Text HAITI to 90999 to donate $10 to Red Cross relief efforts in Haiti. You will receive a confirmation message, and the donation will appear on your bill. PLEASE DO IT IF YOU CAN.

I just sent out an email offering to document the Missionary Flights INternational, they fly DC-3's/C-47's around Haiti and since the earthquake they've been going as much as they can

I may be throwing myself into a mess...

The donations-by-calling-from-your-cell-phone can take weeks-to-months, to process and get the $$$ where it's going. Probably better to make the minor additional effort to donate directly to whatever organization you decide to support.
