Hacked Sony A7S?!

Dahr, I've got a buddy with an a7r2, I'll see if I can get him to do this. But hopefully someone else on this forum that has one can get it to you quicker.

Id probably build a better menu and ui system. Re arrange the functiona to have aps-c and the record button.

I agree with this statement. I can readily understand why A7S owners would want 4k internal recording. However, even if possible, I have to imagine that internal 4k on the original A7S is a recipe for disaster. In other words, I have to assume that Sony made modifications well beyond just increasing the body size of the Mark 2 to make this safely possible.

Now, if one could hack the A7x menu system to make it user-customizable -- or at least something like this -- then we would be talking about a significant monetization opportunity for the creator.

I don't know anyone that wouldn't pay good money to have the opportunity to 'fix' the pathetic menu system -- a menu system, by the way, that we all know Sony will never fix on their own. Something like this has to be easily worth $100 (US), if not more, to the vast majority of A7x owners.

Conservatively speaking, I have to assume there are at least 5,000 A7x owners that would pay for this feature -- and probably much more. So, in practical terms, that's a minimum of $500,000 (US) of potential income.

As a likely much more achievable business opportunity that is capable of benefiting not just A7S owners, but the entire A7x ecosystem, this is where I would focus my attention, were I to have the necessary coding chops (which I don't).

I've been using my A7s for a long time now. What's wrong with the menu?

Remapping of buttons should be possible (in the app, not in the entire system), will look into it later.
--------

For anyone who likes to take a look, there's also a tool on github called "fwtool.py". It's made by the same guy that made the PMCA-RE.
Haven't tried it out yet but it should make it possible to look into the firmware.

Nabil didn't do that much. I don't think many of his claims can be made possible (10bit 422, etc.). On some other points he was right.
It would be possible to make a custom recorder. Although I would rather just modify a stock app.

There are other people making custom apps already for sony devices. (http://psafs.pixub.com) Someone made a bracket app and app
to set a minimal shutter speed.

No disrespect intended, but of the hundreds (if not thousands) of A7 owners I have interacted with, you are the only person I know who does not find the menu system to be illogical, inefficient and infuriating.

However, if the system's menu cannot be remapped by anyone other than Sony, then my suggestion is a moot point anyway.

Again, no disrespect intended.

Actually, I and no one I've worked with feel this way. Are the menus perfect? No. But they aren't particularly worse than any other camera of its kind. I'd even argue that they make sense the more you use it. What I'd love to see is removal of the 30min limit and disable of the skin smoothing bug.

I don't think they are absolutely horrible, but they could be a lot better. Right now it seems items were dropped on a tab based on what was available at each point in time, and remained there forever. If I want to find face detection, the only option is to browse through all the tabs till I find it somewhere.

It's not easy, anyway: it has a lot of stuff that can be configured, and that's actually a good thing!
