GH2 Hack oddity

first few frames are very muddied almost like a posterization effect but blockier, but rest of the footage is completely fine. Anyone else have this or anything to worry about?

Using
Class 10 transcend card with 42mb avchd setting.

This is still a problem at even relatively low (30mbps) bit rates with the hack. I'm not bothering with the GH2 AVCHD until this issue is solved. Try IPowell's 100mbps 1080p MJPEG settings in the meanwhile...nice image quality and very stable.

Stupid question

Stupid question

I've installed the patch, but the files I'm getting in 24p mode are suspiciously identical in size to the ones I was getting before the hack. And when I check the file information in Adoe Premiere it says nothing about the higher bitrate. Still, my 16 gig SD card is 49 minutes only after the patch was installed. What am I missing? Shouldn't I be getting larger files with the higher bitrate?

Goodempire - see if the timing is consistent - I rememember the Gh1 hack, it would still read the same time a 16gb card would handle, but I noticed it counted the seconds/minutes faster in higher detailed scenes.

Yes, I get the same pixelated frames every time at the beginning. Hacked my GH2 with 50 Mbps and lowered my GOP setting to 3, but blockiness issue doesn't bother me. It's just a limitation right now. I'm sure it will be fixed soon enough. I just make a note to forget the first half second when I start filming.

That may not be good for run and gun filming where you want every frame to be clean from the instant you hit record. But if I'm not mistaken the blockiness occurs because when you hit the record button, the GH2 has to quickly adjust at the beginning to the much higher bit rate.

My logic was - the more information I'm getting (higher bitrate) the bigger should be the files. I'm just trying to find out if I installed the patch correctly and everybody else are experiencing the same

If the MJPEG limit is 2GB until you have to hit the button again, wouldn't that limit you to basically 100 Mbps = 12.5 MBps = 2048/12.5 or 163 seconds of straight recording? 2 minutes 43 seconds isn't very long to shoot!

Are you really going to miss the first 1/2 second of recording. That's probably not far from the reaction time to hit record in the first place. If so, either wait for this to be addressed, or remove the hack.

No I'm not, just want to see how bad it is or if it foreshadows something else looming.

i think the new ptoll have too many blank settings to fill.its either we check all as the original default says and change those what the hack wants us to do.either way there are too many variables that that needs to be address unlike the older version where we were changing something we can count with our fingers
