I believe that such a collaborative project calls for an appropriate tool.
A WIKI is a web site with content editable by its visitors. Everyone (in this case, a group of authorized "Editors") can edit every page or add new ones. Past changes are being tracked.
To edit a page click on the "Edit Page" link at the bottom of the page. To log in as editor use username "edit" and password "together" - both without the double quotes.
So, Slapdragon, let me know what you think (by replying to this post).
Such a setup would take the load off your shoulders and would distribute the editing responsibilities. At one point, you can decide to close the editing process for everyone but yourself or restrict the permissions to a small group of people.
A question of the TeX person: can you import the HTML or plain text output of the Wiki into the TeX editor?
If you/we choose to use this tool, the next step would be distributing a new password to the editors and setting a structure for receiving suggestions for new material.

It is possible using XSLT, but the most appropriate format would be DocBook, which can then be translated to many other formats (HTML, PDF, RTF, etc...) using XSLT. HTML is a language used for layout, and it would have to be translated to XHTML to be considered valid within XSLT.
I've read this whole thing and it certainly is an exciting project, especially from my point of view as new forum member, new DVX owner (3 days!) and total moron.
How about including a group of morons to proof read all the techie jargon to be sure its going to be readable for us?
I'm kind of a techie myself; radiologic technologist, self-taught PC builder/fixer and wannabe pilot. I read a bit on the latest scientific research in all sciences - especially when on the pottie.
I've also worked closely with a big deal medical information systems outfit contracted by my employer to setup, coordinate, test, train and run our new RIS (Radiology Information System).
Looks like there will be LOT to proof, so it would require several of us to be sure. Morons are slow readers, you know ...

Well, everyone is waiting for slapdragon. I think he is still busy with his moving. I don't know. Haven't heard from him in a while.
Hey everyone...I've created a site to host this idea. It's still very new, and I'm still working out the kinks of how it will function, but the underlying software (mambo) is very similar to a wiki and is powerful enough to host it everything.
I've posted a few short pieces on electricity and power distribution under the lighting section, but I haven’t been able to write any more content over the last week due to pressing life issues.
I'm still working on a few short articles that might help people writing and editing the project.
Essentially, the way the site works is that you register and when you want to submit an article, you post a proposal in the forum. From there, your registered account is given author privileges and you begin to write and post your article by clicking the "new" link under the content category you'd like to contribute to.
There’s a commenting system that’s being finalized for the software that will allow people to post comments about articles, suggesting changes and clarifications where necessary.
It’s all still very new and I’m doing almost everything myself, so excuse the generic look and format. I’d love assistance wherever it can be offered.
Wow! I dont know flip about electricity other than I shouldnt blowdry my hair while in soaking in the tub, but I could actually comprehend much of what was on there, just skimming it. Mostly I read about mapping out the circuits and I totally got it. If the rest of this project is anything like this first part, it is going to be one heck of a valuable tool for all of us.
Thanks for looking terri, and thanks for joining as well!
What the site needs now is for you guys to start writing and submitting content. There's only 24 hours in my day right now, so I need as much help as I can get.
Wow. I can see this website helping me out VERY VERY much in the next few months! Slapdragon kinda dropped off the face of the earth huh? Thanks J. Barnes.
I've really been slacking off on the site lately due to an unexpected promotion at work. Now real work has been taking the place of my redesign time, but I hope to get the site redesigned soon and add a bunch more content...
at least until people start offering to add to the site themselves.
I don't know if anyone has information about slapdragon, perhaps that move did not go well?
