Guide to Video

Re: Guide to Video

This is one of the best ideas I've ever heard. I wish I could have had my hands on something like this about 4 years ago.

But think of how much fun it will be to write a peer reviewed article for this work now!

Re: Guide to Video

If I help, will it count towards my court order community service? If so, I'm in. :)

Great idea guys. Glad my fav camera has such a nice, knowledgable group of people behind it.

That is the goal. Then, when someone has a question, they have a free manual to start from.

Write a single article on something you feel you know well. Everyone will be peer reviewed, and no one, including my own writing, will get away with not getting edited. The worst that can happen if you try to write an article is that it gets thrown in with someone else's and you get second author. And the process of getting your act together to write this thing will teach you something as well.

Re: Guide to Video

What a great idea...there's so much that could be done with this. I've spent the last six months scouring the web, reading books, etc. I don't know if there's really anything that I could help with, but as one of the "younger members" of the site, I think this is a GREAT idea :)

I'd like to suggest a few things that I would love to see included:

Digital Special Effects/Compositing/Rotoscoping/Etc
Business side of video
Motion Graphics Design
Color Design and Theory
Cinematography for other than narrative film formats (documentary, corporate, etc)

Obviously, this stuff won't be TOO in-depth, but it would be good to have an overview...

These are all subjects that could be covered. I am right now writing a section on documentary and another on color theory, and we have some people who know motion stuff. This weekend I will be posting the author's guidelines and getting the crew organized.

One thing you can do is choose one thing to research and write (do not plagarize). Your topic wont go to press without peer review, and just like school, writing a paper about a subject you love can be a great way to learn about it.

Re: Guide to Video

EXCELLENT IDEA!!! I would definitely like to help, hmmm what can I help with? I'm an expert in AE (adobe after effects), so you let me know if there is anything I can do to help :)

Re: Guide to Video

I can't wait.  I'd like to recommend a title that, I hope, will influence the writing style: DVX for Complete Morons

Write a how to, with screen shots, on AE, and maybe a "special effects for dummies" and send it to me, and I will give it over to an editor.

Slapdragon = dummy, so no problems there.

Gang --

The editors will be getting a guide this weekend to kick the ball off.

And thanks for all of the volunteers.

Re: Guide to Video

Hey slapdragon,

That is a great idea.

I could help out as an editor, putting it in pdf or ps format.

I have a lot of experience with LaTeX, a publishing system used to format books, reports, manuals, and any thing you can imagine.

A lot of books you guys see on the shelves were published using this tool or the system it works under: TeX.

If you guys need any help on that, please do let me know.

I could probably write some articles on Media Animation as well, as I have played with that in the past.

All the best

Fidel.
