That is wonderful. I was hoping we could get some translations going.

Re: Guide to Video

this is a great idea, can't wait!

editing will definitely be key in order to keep things concise and easy to understand. (with an online edition, you could include 'does this answer your question?' feedback buttons.) otherwise, people will just post their already-answered-somewhere question hoping for a quick answer. to avoid that, how about FAQs? with as straight-to-the-point answers as possible but with links to more detailed info within the guide.

There will be an index and reference guide.

Re: Guide to Video

if you need a place to host this let me know...I will be glad to host it one of my many websites

Re: Guide to Video

I have a server.. And that way it can have a name you can designate with its own DNS.. it wont be a subdomain.. you guys can agree on a name for the web reference guide and I can point it to my server and set you up there. Basically free hosting.. Let me know if that would be useful..

Otherwise DVXuser may just make a page here?? Im not sure what that plan is..

in addition i would enjoy earning anyones business here for hosting..

Re: Guide to Video

What I've seen here today is exactly what A REAL FORUM is all about. Everyone teaching, contributing and learning at the same time. It's a super idea that is bound to spread. Genius!

Re: Guide to Video

p.s. my offer to host was not asking for money or looking for other business from forum members...I just happen to own an ISP that's all

just want to make sure nobody thought I was soliciting

Re: Guide to Video

If you were in good taste what would be the matter with that iml?? ;)
Especially if it was a service offered for free to the matter in question.

Re: Guide to Video

When's this thing going to get off the ground? It sounds fantastic for those of us just starting out.

Re: Guide to Video

Hello everyone:

I got caught early by my move, and will be in Buffalo this Saturday. Please give me another week to settle in and get the letters out to everyone. I will be using e-mail, so please send me your e-mail addresses to: snjackson (at) mindspring (dot) com. That e-mail address will be changing shortly, but I will come on and let you know.

Re: Guide to Video

I can write about 'writing.' I am the first to admit that I am a noob when it comes to what you guys know as far as the technical area is concerned, but I know the structure of a script.

Re: Guide to Video

This sounds like a good idea... few questions though. Would this thing be published as a written work on actual paper? if it is, it might run into the slight problem of becoming obselete before it has a chance to do much good. Computer programs are often changing and camera technology is often changing. This only pertains of course to technology specific sections. Such things as lighting theory or editing theory never really changes all that much.

If this is meant to be simply an online publication then it could be one that constantly evolves. Such a project might end up being more recent and fresh. Recent articles and main sections could be constantly renewed and updated to fit the changing technology and times.

I know I have read many such publications in school and have noticed a considerably dated feel in them. These publications are only a few years old as well.

A good idea might be to have the guide put together as one base document with continuing additions and amendments added on later. The base document would mostly follow film theory such as "lighting a night scene" while the amendments would follow the specific technical guidelines such as "Creating a composition in Photoshop 7.0"

I wouldn't mind helping at all. I've got some experience with Adobe Indesign for publishing as well as extensive web design and web creation experience if you're going the web bound route.

I've also got some experience with 3D studio max and understand basic 3D modelling and animation processes.

As far as actual articles concerning filming, while i know my stuff, i don't know if I'd be able to write an article on anything better than someone with more experience. My usual advice to filmmakers is "make a good movie". You know what a good movie is, so if you watch yours and it's not good, then you have not succeeded... simply make it good.

Re: Guide to Video

Hello gang, there has been a delay in getting my office computer up and running, but I am in upstate New York and have worked more on this project. I will be back hopefully by next week.
