Grindhouse.....split

Ah yes, I get you, but it's never "fresh" either - with all those rotting bodies around ;-)

:cheesy: :cheesy: :cheesy:

Never took it personally, and veiled condescension is not a big deal either...I enjoy trading the occasional cheap shot, as long as the other person can handle taking as well as giving.

I know we disagree...and I'll let it go. No problem.

As for zombie stuff...just as someone had mentioned about 30 Days Of Night having too much posturing and not enough horror in another thread, you have to remeber that these genres run in cycles. I'm no fan of horror, but I do notice trends in the genre, or even the sub-genres.

The 60's and 70's had all kinds of Dracula films, and then that got old...fast. Every Dracula angle was done, so they cool off on that stuff, and then they revisit it years later, and try to give it a different angle.

Zombie films are no different. You have the core element that you need to satisfy the zombie fans, but then you need an angle to draw in more mainstream viewers. Some of the stuff works, until it gets too weird, so then they go back to more conventional fare.

Wasn't Fido supposed to be a really unconventional zombie film? Did it work more as a comedy or zombie flick?

I had never heard of FIDO until recently; looks okay, but I think Shaun may have stolen the comedy angle.

Did you see Shaun DeSica ? Loved it.

I'm pretty easy when it comes to horror; It's my guilty pleasure genre. I can recognice the masterpieces

EXCORCIST, HALLOWEEN, THE THING

The camp that is so bad it's good

RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD, CEMETARY MAN

The simply fun ones

Scream, Evil Dead

And the bad ones

Any PG-13 one relased today :P

I just got Fido from netflix, haven't seen it yet but just returned Black Sheep, (not chris farley) had to be the best Zombie Sheep turned werewolf twist flick yet!

The camp that is so bad it's good

CEMETARY MAN

Really? I think it's straight up good. It's like arthouse, meets Italian zombie horror, with dark humor. As much as I love Return of the Living Dead, Cemetery Man (I prefer the title Dellamorte Dellamore) is far more original and unique. It has that perfect, macabre, ambiguous quality to it.

I'll give you that Billy.

I love it, neverthe less .....

I suppose when the dead are coming back I assume in my head it's pretty bad :P

Not a horror guy. My sister was always into that stuff, but I never really got into it. They're usually too gross or sick for me.

Haven't seen Fido, Shaun...,Night...,Return....28 Days...,28 Weeks....

Ben Kingsley scared the crap out of me in Sexy Beast...does that count?

Hey John - Shaun DEFINITELY stole the comedy angle.

Fido has a Leave it to Beaver, 50s styled tone except that everyone in town has a 'pet' zombie. I was certainly hoping for more. When I went to see it, the director Andrew Currie was doing a little opening weekend talk here in Victoria.

Shot in the Okanagan area (interior of BC, Canada), it was cute but certainly not horror (even comedic horror) at all.

nah...

John, FIDO is not really worth the time, but you do sound like somebody who is really into zombie flicks. So it really is up to you if you want to add another to your list.

As a kid I watched all of the great horror films because my aunt and uncle were really into those kind of movies. While most of my grade school friends were getting their parents to rent them Jason or Freddy movies, I was watching: Alien, Aliens (scary for a kid), Halloween, Jaws, The Thing, The Exorcist, Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Stephen King stuff, Hitchcock, movies with Dracula/Frankenstein/Mummy/werewolves and so on.

When it comes to zombie movies, everyone should see the original Night and Dawn as well as Shaun because it is hilarious.

Blaine, does that film have one of the main male characters running around screaming a lot? Dancing zombies? And is it voodoo related?

I don't really remember a main male character running around and screaming...or dancing zombies. But it was voodoo related. Here's the plot summary from IMDb:

"In World War II, during a storm, a small plane crashes in an island between Cuba and Porto Rico, but the pilot James 'Mac' McCarthy (Dick Purcell) and his two passengers, Bill Summers (John Archer) and his black servant Jeff Jackson (Mantan Moreland), survive. Bill is in a mission trying to find Admiral Arthur Wainwright (Guy Usher), who vanished in that area. They are lodged by the Austrian Dr. Mikhail Sangre (Henry Victor) in his mansion. The scared Jeff finds that the place has zombies, but Mac and Bill do not believe on him. Later, they find that Dr. Sangre is a spy transferring the knowledge of the admiral and other prominent persons to the zombies"

I think it was the servant Jeff who was running around. Who knows, if I have seen this it would have been in the 80s and I was under 10.

I looked into Netflix...doesn't appear to be available in Canada. Maybe I should try .ca instead of .com....

There is no Netflix Canada, but I believe there are a couple services that are exactly the same. I have not tried any because of the quality rental stores we have in Toronto.

How did the make the guns on that girls leg? Did she actually have no leg? Or did they somehow cut her leg out of the scene and edited in a gun?
