Grindhouse.....split

I was just looking on the internet for the Grindhouse release date and I came across several articles that stated that for the European and possibly North American dvd release they were going to split the 2 films up on different dvds. It states they are doing this because they attribute the poor theatrical release to it's long running time. That's why I saw the movie in the first place. I'm wondering if it's really just to make back more money this way. Any thoughts.

Personaly if they are released seprately, I'm only going to pick up Planet Terror.

Probably more money beacause of the lackluster theatrical release.

I'm with you, I thought it was great seeing them back to back like that, though the film breaks were annoying after the first time they did it. Another thing is I think a lot of people didn't understand it and couldn't take in the nostalgia factor "Grindhouse" was trying to give.

I know I liked it, though I am with most people when I say that I expected more from "Death Proof". If anything, it certainly succeeded in making "Machete" look like one heck of a film! Glad Robert's actually going to make that one!

I don't know the answer to that one. I do know that one of my vfx shots for an upcoming film is in the teasers! I cant say what it is but I am stoked to be working on it. I can say it is scary..So I will buy whatever they sell. LOL

If I'm not mistaken the movies were split up for theatrical release in Europe.
I know when my wife and I were in Italy at the beginning of the summer we saw a commercial on TV there for 'Death Proof' - couldn't understand a word they said, but it seemed to be for the theatrical release - with no mention of 'Planet Terror' at all.

The full speed car chases in Death Proof was great... They're probably going to also make a release with both DVD's in a double feature package... Also, I was thinking, being that they added all that chopped up and film scratch stuff in post, they should add the clean version to the DVD...

I know that would ruin the whole point, but it would probably open up the market to people who dont wanna see it because of the choppy footage...

Grindhouse was everything I expected; I loved it, I got it.

I'll be definately getting both (no matter how it gets released)

I dug the experience of the first two and a half hours. I can only take so much yapping around a table.

Grindhouse was one of my most antecipated movies of the year (so far). Unfortunatelly, it wasn't released here(Macau). So I've been awaiting with big antecipation for the DVD release. Not anymore, if these news are true.

Its upsetting that we are not to experience the movies like they were ment to be shown (together with the "breaks"). I think this is a very bad move and it destroys the concept of "Grindhouse" in the first place.

The only hope I see is to wait for a BLU-RAY or HD-DVD "Grindhouse experience" disc, which, I believe, will probably happen, but should take another year...

"Death Proof "all the way! Tarantino made a loving tribute whereas Rodriguez made goofy parody. DP's payoff was worth all the yakking, IMO.

If we can learn from Sin City dvd release we should wait a bit to buy. My friend shelled out 20 bucks for a basic sin city dvd right when it came out but I waited a few months for the full package with all the extras and what not. Chance they could do the same with Grindhouse......
