Grammar Police "anymore"

Whoa... that stuff made me cringe. ME! lol :D

I'd love if things that are unnecessarie just whent poof and dissappeared, but I haz no clue four the languanges. So I iz, there four I haz no clue.

All languages will converge into one, so long as we last that long... and that day we shall be l33t, so why fight it?

on an offroad forum, i peruse sometimes... they are sticklers about you you're your they're their there... but for good reason... lol

I can't stand people who mispronounce on purpose... but I do make jokes sometimes on mispronouncing words, mixing them it... Give me two words and I can mesh them into one

Lear how to speak properly... don't upset him.

Bad grammar drives me up a freakin wall too. Hawk, if that kind of thing bothers you, what about the most recent tidal wave of not using periods (let alone commas) or capitals when writing multiple sentences? It makes my eyes hurt.

so just a run on sentence like this i couldn't handle it ive wanted to stop and erase this sentence a few times now

Unacceptable.

As someone who, for reasons that now escape me, has chosen to write for a living, I have one main piece of practical advice for the yoots I encounter: Learn to speak and write well. If you're not the smartest person in the room, you'll sound like you are.

Things I hate:
1. Inappropriate ellipses
2. Using "good" instead of "well"
3. Putting a period or comma outside the quotation marks
4. The IRS

I started watching the 30 Rock series recently, and at the begin of Season 1 they hire a guy that everyone thinks is a buffoon (Tracy Morgan). He asks how someone is doing, and they say "Good."

"Wrong! Superman does good. You do well. Learn your grammar." I laughed.

I overuse ellipses. As opposed to the semicolon, which I can't for the life of me find a good use for.

"If you really want to hurt your parents, and you don’t have the nerve to be a homosexual, the least you can do is go into the arts. But do not use semicolons. They are transvestite hermaphrodites, standing for absolutely nothing. All they do is show you’ve been to college." - Kurt Vonnegut

Yeah right, next you'll be telling me to use the full range of my vocabulary.

I will try to use complete pauses with sentences that aren't to closely related from now on.

I'll bet that most people use colons more. Yet I have to hit SHIFT to activate them. Semicolons!!!

to closely related

Two: a number ("... nor either count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three.")
To: a direction ("I'll give this project to you.")
Too: "more than desired" or "as well" ("This porridge is too hot." "I want some, too.")

I can't believe I did that.

I can't freaking believe it.

Don't feel so bad. As much of a stickler as I am about grammar, I have found it much more difficult to proof read text on a computer screen. I will catch more bad grammar and syntax errors if I print a document to paper than I will if I try to proof read using the screen.

My wife gets irritated by my awareness of poor grammar. Things she says that make me cringe include:

"supposably"
"chester drawers" (In the real world, that's a chest of drawers.)
"I'm wore out."
"nukyular"
"Mitsubitsi" (By that, she means Mitsubishi.)

Of course, I cannot help but to say something whenever any of these arise.

^ Yeah. I'm adding it to Paddy O'Furniture, Salvatore Monella and Admiral 'Tar' MacAdam as funny character names for future use...

...actually there are real people unfortunate enough to be named Salvatore Monella. But I'm using it anyway.
