GPI in/outs

I mentioned this in another RED thread a while ago..

GPI inputs/output.

a GPI port is just a simple analog connection that allows you to send a simple control signal in or out of a device. the DVXs and HVX use a GPI connector for the record button for exmple so you can build a dirt cheap external record button.

How about say 8 chennels of in/output that can be assiseged to any camera control or status.
For example:
1 - out - tally
2 - out - warning/low batt
3 - out - wanring/low storage
4 - in - record start/stop
5 - in - bars on/off
6 - in - power on/off
7 - in - etc..
8 - out - etc..

But make them all freely assignabel to as many things as possible.
If i'm using a camera on a Steadicam with a remote follow focus, normally the follow focus puller cna also start and stop a film camera by way of a simple GPI. or maybe I want an external record light for some reason.
Who cares what *I* want it for though, just let us all choose.
- and some decent connector for this would be good too. Heck, let us set an un/used BNC connector on teh camera to be a GPI if we want. I'm talking serious connectivity flexibilety here.

...and a couple of chanels of analog in/out for a potentiomiter (like the DVX/HVX zoom, iris and focus, would be great too!
