FS7: Gotchas. quirks, problems & solutions

It works physically . Do you think the "electrical short "is bulls*%t ? It doesn't quite make sense to me, but its of course scary.

I did find a few posts about this but they always and to do with an adapter with "focus confirmation chip".

Hey Erik,
I figured it out. Went on the web and googled "Nikon to EF Canon adapter causes short circuit" and found a few posts . Most just said that the adapters with focus confirmation chips could do this & brick a camera. However another recommended putting some paper tape or fingernail polish on the metal part of the adapter that could contact the 3 pins of the Canon electrical contacts that are in danger.
So I went to my adapters and it was easy to see where the metabones adapters pins might come in contact with metal from the Nikon to Canon adapter. Actually I had 2 and one definitely contacted the pins and one was close - might have . My cheapo nonG lens adapter didn't even come close to touching the pins. Anyway i just put a little piece of black paper tape in the adapter over that spot and it seemed like a good safety precaution that didn't affect the fit at all.

My best adapter was a a photodiox Nikon G to EF adapter.

I dont know why to not buy 2 (or more!) adapters - yes you may not want multiples of the electronics but physical adapters are about $40, I get min in the uk from SRB Griturn and they are fine.

I have three nikkor to Emount, a speedbooster N-emount, and when I shoot on Canon bodies I have 5 can-nikon adapters as they are a PITA to change in the field.

Yep that makes sense.

I dont know about the contacts thing (I have only DUMB Nikkor to Canon adapters) but they work fine on all canon stuff Ive used, 5d, C100 BMC4k ect. I have one per nikkor lens as they are complex to change out.

He wanted to try his Nikon lenses on a Canon EF speedbooster.
No need to buy an extra speedbooster for 500 bucks...

Yup, and I want to be able to use my Nikon lenses while I'm in the process of switching to Canon, though with all the stuff I'm hearing about problems with EF lenses on FS7 maybe i won't switch over so fast. I feel a lot better about it now that I've figured out how not to fry the camera if I ever get the damn thing:-)

Is there any way to move the focus zoom window when using 4x and 8x focus zoom modes without using the handgrip?

I don't often travel with the handgrip if I'm doing corporate style stuff, but focus zoom is worthless without being able to move the box.

It seems to me that the selection wheel (plus the buttons to the left/right of it) could be up/down/left/right for moving the zoom window... But it doesn't do that. And I doubt Sony will ever add that function... I'm on my first real shoot with this camera and already have a laundry list of changes/features. Who the hell did Sony have test this and did they ever use the camera themselves?

Nope. Would be a good thing for sure.

BTW I didn't think I'd get on with the handgrip, but to be fair I've found it really useful. Not just for handheld but also on my tripod. It's pretty much replaced my pan bar.

Hi guys, hope you can answer my question. I sold my FS700 with the alpha lens which does phase detection. Great for my 2nd shooter who are mainly assistant. they don't know much about pulling focus or keeping focus. Yes you would think I should be using a camcorder but I do not like the quality of a camcorder. With that I shoot mainly wedding, I use 5D Mark3's with various lenses for the highlight while the FS700 for the slow mo look and long cut documentary. My assistant mainly man the camera with just panning and tilting up or down once in a while during the ceremony, but my main thing is for them to keep the focus.

I have cash ready to buy the Sony 4K XDCAM Super35 Camcorder Kit with 28 to 135mm Zoom Lens. When zooming in with this lens does it keep the focus?

Thanks for posting the issues from my site. I've made some updates since. It's important to note that the F5 behaves a lot like this camera. Rumor has it the next F5 FW will speed up the menus. I hope we get that soon. It is like you have to think I'm slow motion to control the menus (and dials; switches are fine).

For or years I lived on C300 with punch in only being center frame. They fixed it I think early this year. Now going back to non movable magnify on FS7 hurts. I hope they fix this soon as well.

I agree - I wish slo mo didn't require switching to super slo mo - it's all just one option - but that's the catch - the f5 f55 all have bizarre menu layouts - that's the strength of the new red epic and drgaon menu - pretty simple that comes better than the red one mx's menu system mess. and the c300 is all over the place - but still ergonomics and image quality trump a poorly designed menu system. If you have issues, email sony about them. let them know so they can improve it.

Interesting..

1.) XDCA-FS7 SupportActivates the support of the optional extension box XDCA-FS7. A PXW-FS7 which has V1.00 installed cannot use the XDCA-FS7.

2.) Operation Stability Improvements
Overall operation performance has been improved.
