Anyone else getting Sorry. We think you're a bot, so jump through these hoops or we won't give you your search results?

OK. The error message doesn't exactly say that, but that's what it means. I've gotten it three times today.

I just did a test and it looked ok.

My computer had a virus once that would not allow me to search for anything. Is it only G**gle? Have you tried Yah**? Do you have any new add-ons to Firefox or IE that might be blocking access?

Hard to tell if it's just Google. It's not even Google all the time.

But it just did it again, so here's the exact message I get:

We're sorry...
... but your query looks similar to automated requests from a computer virus or spyware application. To protect our users, we can't process your request right now.

We'll restore your access as quickly as possible, so try again soon. In the meantime, if you suspect that your computer or network has been infected, you might want to run a virus checker or spyware remover to make sure that your systems are free of viruses and other spurious software.

If you're continually receiving this error, you may be able to resolve the problem by deleting your Google cookie and revisiting Google. For browser-specific instructions, please consult your browser's online support center.

We apologize for the inconvenience, and hope we'll see you again on Google.

Deleting the cookie does nothing. And gosh, Google doesn't have a point of contact for this srt of thing. Guess they want people to just give up and go to Yahoo or AltaVista or whatever.

Strange. Blocking access because your query "looks similar" to a computer virus query? So if a computer virus queries "DVX100" a lot then nobody out there will be able to query DVX100?

Try going to one of G**gle's foreign sites.

Also, download Search & Destroy and make sure there's nothing suspicious on your computer.

Nothing on my computer. If they don't like the query string, it's their own fault...it's their web page. :)

I don't mean to get too personal ;-) but what exactly where you searching for? If you don't mind. This could be important in the process to resolve your issue.

Well I've got a new homepage. :)

Did some searches (not to rub it in - lol) and it looks like GenJerDan is not alone. A lot of people seem to get that error message. Again, the whole thing is very strange.

My only guess is that Big G is constantly under attack from hackers (wanting to target the biggest site in the world) and there are probably viruses out there that make millions of bogus queries in an attempt to overload their system. Occasionally a real user will do something similar to the virus and G**gle blocks them for their own protection. So you're just an innocent victim of "the system". Sorry.

Have you tried http://www.google.ca or some other branch of G?

This is what I get when I search that

Sounds like a virus or malware to me. I would make sure you are running a good virus scan to rule that out.

GenJerDan-

Hope all that gets sorted out for you. I've never had anything like that happen to me. Never even heard of it, really. I just did a search on the same criteria you mention above and all was well.

Hm, found my source. It seems like it is nothing wrong on your side, must be google having problems. He just waited and then it worked again.

PK, as owner of his own search engine, doesn't like to post the full names of other search engines.

Actually, it's the latest thing. You n**bs! Someone else (a while back) had the idea, as a way to prevent Whoogle from crawling websites/forums and gathering keywords/references of itself. If everyone did it then G00gle's own Page Rank would go down on their own site. Sweet irony. Join in! Besides I send them enough traffic already, I don't need to give them more free advertising by posting their name everywhere.

But YouTube is still safe from the asterisk treatment.
