I have a Century Precision .7X with a 77mm thread. I paid about $250 new from Century in La. about 10 years ago. It's a really nice piece of glass that I have used on many cameras and lenses when I needed about 30% more field. It only looses 1/3 stop. I've even been testing it on the 18-55 Kit lens that came along with the 500D and it works very will. It converts an 18mm to a 12.5mm so with the 1.6 crop it gives me the approximate view of a 21mm on a FF camera. I'll shoot some tests to see how much distortion there is on buildings, but so far in the right situation it looks pretty good for interiors. A great adapter to have in the bag for the long haul.

i got my tamron 17-50mm 2.8 for like $265 on ebay.

there are deals

I agree. Ebay has all the lenses you would ever need to test and when you want to sell you get the best return on your investment.

Canon 17-40mm f4L $750 new
Canon 17-40mm f4L $560 used sold 2 days ago on ebay

Your 17-50mm 2.8 Tamron sounds like another good example.
