Good Case For Dvx100b

I know this is kind of a silly question, and far less technical than what most threads are concerned with, but I figured some users could probably give me some opinions based on the cases they use. I just purchased my DVX100B and it arrived yesterday. I'm really excited but I need a case or bag so I can actually take it around with me. I live in Seattle where it rains all the time so I need something that can at least be somewhat water resistant.
So thoughts or suggestions. Hard case? Soft bag? Specific bags that you use and like. Thank you for taking the time to answer this. I look forward to heeding all of your combined wisdom do enhance my craft.

i use a back pack called the ty evans bag its by ogio and fits alot of accessories plus a laptop and the camera, a simple google of Ogio Ty Evans will bring one up

or pm me and i can send you some photos of mine at some point

i dont use hard cases but i think most people that do, go with ones made by Pelican

oh and the ty evans bag doesnt scream Steal me! like most camera bags, always a plus

I have several cases bags and the following are my favourites: Pelican 1500 and 1510 as hardcases, the Varizoom bag (not as expensive as Porta Brace or Kata, but still good...), Kata CCC-193, Petrol PCBP1 backpack. All of them are good bags/cases. But Many members here use Ogio bags as well and of course Porta Brace (I used to have one of those for my JVC GY-DV500 setup way back...) which are kind of industry standard, but a little expensive. Probably you should look at the most common companies (Porta Brace, Kata, Petrol, Pelican, Ogio,...) and select specific models to narrow down your search and then come up with a question to the specific brands/models...

kata makes some nice backpacks with rain covers i have a hard case and never use it i find the backpack is much more practical you can put your laptop and all accesories with it and it goes on your back

I bought a PortaBrace BK-1N backpack earlier this year. Love it, as it holds everything I need, including laptop, firewire drive, collapsible reflector/bounce, rain cover, wireless mic, bateries/charger, cables. Also has a tripod cradle on the side.

It's well-padded and actually very comfortable to wear. I walked around DC for three days with it and had no problems.

There are only two drawbacks to this backpack:

1) The tripod cradle doesn't hold my good sticks, so I have to keep a compact tripod with me if I really backpack it. Otherwise, I pack my big tripod separately. Most backpacks have this challenge, though.

2) The main compartment isn't deep enough to hold the camera with the factory-issue mic holder attached, so I have to unscrew it to travel. Not a huge deal, since I don't use the Panasonic mic but for last resort. I have a shoe-mounted shock mount for my shotgun if I really need an on-cam mic, and it and the shotgun pack nicely with the camera.

Price-wise, this backpack really fit into a tight budget.

I have a Petrol camera bag which is great quality. The build is super sturdy and rugged. The padded sides have a bit of a shell quality to them that almost makes it a hard case. BH has it with a rain slicker for the DVX for $149. It is big enough to hold your camera, batteries, mic, filters, cables and some tapes. But it is small enough to take on a plane with you. Check it out.

I also have one of these bags, it is a great soft case with hardened corners. However, if you really want to be as run-and-gun and mobile as possible, go with a backpack such as the Ogio that has tripod straps. I could see this being especially useful if your a one-man crew.

I like the Pelican, Frys even sells them. I paid $80 for one that fits the dvx with two batteries and the charger- and its very light for such a heavy duty case.
