That's a rough start there with the audio. I've had situations similar to yours - even in recent months. There was a producer who hired me a year ago to shoot documentary footage - some really important interviews - then claimed that he couldn't get any of my 720/24PN footy into his FCP system.

I spent the better part of three hours on the phone with the guy over as many days trying to save his project and our future relationship. Called in an Barry Green Q&A session favor (we were two of the only people on the planet that had tried 24PN into FCP apparently).

Anyway, in the end, it was the producer who was trying to capture the footage wrong, but I was really nervous for a few days that I'd ruined someone's project.

I've been in this stupid business since 1990 and anyone who knows me will tell you I never get nervous. Ever.

Anyway, I say we take it easy on the guy (at least until he finds out that he didn't screw it up after all).

I hope you've checked the tape yourself. Even producers make mistakes like not turning up the volume, listening to the wrong track, etc. If there was audio in the headphones, it's hard for to me figure out how it didn't get on tape. Have you figured it out?

I'd have the camera checked--one of our DVX's had a problem where audio was coming through the RCA outputs and (IIRC) into the headphones, but wasn't being recorded onto the tape. (That very same DVX is now back in service for the second try at fixing the opposite problem, audio on the tape but not through the RCA outputs.)

There was a good thread in here on the stupidest things we have all done on shoots. It was several pages long of people having similar types of experiences. It happens to all of us; sucks it happened on your first gig but (and this is no disparage on you) a producer can/should expect more of these types of glitches from a green shooter. It's part of the price of hiring less experienced shooters.

You will rebound and do better next time.

Good luck

You'll realize (soon enough) that lessons gleaned from your own mistakes can make for the best insurance against making them again. :)

Robert,
As Jason allready perfectly explained. You can hold a person down and force them to get up, or you can reach out a hand to help them up.

I agree that this is a tough business, and beeing a baby won't get you far in it.

But this is a public forum with memebers from all walks of life. When someone comes on and makes a post saying they have no reason to live and farewell, you do not EVER push them for any reason.
This memeber could be 45 and have more life experience than you can shake a stick at and this be his/her way of venting. Or s/he could be a 13 year old kid who after dropping out of school and getting dumped by his girl/boyfriend has made that last mistake that pushes them over the edge of dispair. You just don't know.
I don't care what the circumstances are, but calling someone who is making comments that even slightly appear suicidal a looser is highly irresponsible and about the dumbest thign you can say. That is not the way of this forum.

I'm fine with members disagreeing with me, I'm a member too after all, and civil discussion is always good.

However when you are allready pushing it, this comment...

Oh my God you guys are still just as hilarious and mean spirited as ever.

Gotta love it. I actually haven't been on the board for awhile because I know how to check audio. HA!!!

I'm a little concerned that this guy hasn't posted since he told us he was saying goodbye. I kind of mixed that up with the whole posting of that Bjork stalker the other day and I'm a little worried about the guy.

I read his post as one made in jest. He was being overly dramatic for effect. Now I'm not so sure. Is there any way we can find out if he's still alive?

That brings up a good question. Would we know if anyone on this forum died? Or would we just assume, through their absence, that they were actually working?

I was just going to mention that. Personally, I would have to check the files myself and verify it. It's very possible it was someone else's mistake.
-possible the tape was not captured into vegas properly? (1 possibility).

WORD!!

You know what i'm most afraid of is everyone that posted in this thread has screwed their Videog Karma.

I have the last shoot of a 6 week run tonight. Should I get a rabbit's foot or something? I gotta rub something eh?

I hope not ! , I very much doubt that one would be stupid enough to actually terminate ones life over such a small matter.

That gives me an Idea, set a web company that alerts your forums when you have died, how does it work?

"Easy make a one off Installment of $19.99 and get full lifetime membership, sign up now and get a free alarm clock, when you die, our servers are linked to the Health serviced and other governmental system that regularly scan for details. When you die your death certificate is issued and that is picked up on our scans, this then triggers the "Death Alert"(c) and forums and message boards that you are signed to are automatically informed of your death, including time of death and reason of death."

:)
