i got my first job last week as a videographer.
yestarday was my first day on the job.

6 hours of shooting a car show, along with interviews of the car owners.
handed in my tape to the producer for editing at the end of the day.

get a call today from the producer (my boss) telling me there was no audio in the footage, not even the interviews.

i was even monitoring with hearphones.
don't know what i did wrong :( ...I just know I suck with sound.

well folks,
i'm a failure in life
no point in going on.

farewell my friends,
gator

..."failure in life" - bollocks.

So I take it that you're whole set of life experiences up to this point were preparing you for shooting 6 hours of car footage then.
:crybaby: Waaah - call a waaaambulance.

Stop crying, suck it up, chalk it up to experience and move along

Did anyone die?
No??

Then it's not that serious. There will be other jobs and chances for ya.

If you couldn't take that, then you wouldn't have lasted long in this business anyways.
Oh well, more jobs for us! Woo hoo:dankk2:

I'm sorry, but quite simply people like you tick me off. If you can list 13 other times when you failed at the exact same thing. Then yes you can say your a failure at life to me. Otherwise what on earth makes you think otherwise? One simple mistake? It really is no biggie. Its not like its the end of your career forever.

Get up, stop being a push-over and get on with it. Life sucks. Crappy things like this happen. I know one person who was suppost to hand a finished copy of a feature film to his director the following morning. Stayed up 3 nights straight just trying to finish it. When the day came he accidently handed his boss his girlfriends porno film.

Not only did he discover his girlfriend watched porn and did there relationship fall apart and they left each other, but when the director quickly submitted it to the Film Festival. They gave him a bollocking saying it was somehow unacceptable. So he lost his job and somehow didn't get paid. Yet again Directors stupid job for not checking it before tape went off, but still. Just to make you feel better.

Be happy it wasn't you. By the way, how old are you?

Ok folks, go easy on Gator. This stuff happens to everone, and we all feel like crap afterwards. God knows the time I did this same thing still bugs me to this day.

Gator is coming here for a bit of consoling, and some people choose to kick him when he's down. That is un-acceptable in this community.

Keep your head up gator, and be glad you arn't this guy:

I actually gasped. The first time I've actually exclaimed out loud about something on this forum.

Make that the second time I exclaimed at something.

I hope you've checked the tape yourself. Even producers make mistakes like not turning up the volume, listening to the wrong track, etc. If there was audio in the headphones, it's hard for to me figure out how it didn't get on tape. Have you figured it out?

Oh, boo-hoo.
This type of stuff should be motivating. I was the exact same way with one of my friends and then thanked me afterwards, it helps to put things in perspective. It may sound strange but this is motivating, and if they can't take it, they should get out of this business. They should be able to suck it up, get out there and prove us wrong.

Robert. Mikko just came in here and asked you to tone it down, and in return you insult him. tsk tsk.

Jason, Mikko I apologize if it sounded like I was making an insult. That was not my intention. It's nothing personal at all, I am just stating the obvious(or not so obvious) subtext of my prior post. That's all.

Sometimes there is a time to rub someone on the back, and other times are a time to slap them. This doesn't strike me as one of the times to do the latter. Yes, the business is tough. Everybody gets it, and it's said so often, it must be cliche by now.

Dear Gator (if you're still around),

If you monitored sound with headphones, and your level meters were showin' stuff... your tapes probably have audio...

mikko tolerates personal attacks, but if you badmouth the steadicam...

be prepared for a beatdown.

Ok, it's one thing if he's being sarcastic but another if he is being sincere. If he sincerly meant this, well... are we to sympathise. If we do, and it happens again he'll feel the same way, if we actually tell that he has to just suck it up and go forth or get out, he's far more likely to get used to the game and brush it off next time.

Look. This is mikko's thread, so I'm not gonna get involved more than I already have. But, here's my point. There are better ways to get your point across, which is not necessarily invalid. Besides, coming in here and going "boo hoo" to a guy that is obviously a bit distraught, isn't polite, and isnt' proper etiquitte on this forum. And then to do the same thing again after Mikko asked you politely to tone it down, is just asking for trouble. You've been a member of this site for a while now. You should know better than to behave like that. Get your message across in a more constructive way. Don't be a turd

Yeah, I know. I have been a member for some time. BUT, I've never read a thread like this and am only trying to help believe it or not. I don't believe in babying people like this. I am not trying to be argumentive here, this is strictly a discussion.
