GH2 God i love my gh2...

Hey L1n3ARX, You should work for panny. lol. All joking aside, need to see footage before I buy in to these type of statements. What is cinematic to you may not be cinematic to others. footage please.

Another thing is. I'm constantly hearing about the great cinematic potential of this hacked gh2 but have yet to hear of or even see for that matter one feature film where a well know big name dp has even ventured to use it, hacked or unhacked, where as the 7d, 5d has tons of work we can pull up that was used. I guess what I'm saying is I want so bad to like this cam and give panny my money cause I'm a gear hoard but I can't find one gh2 feature properly lit to convince me. Until then it's unproven.

Please, if any one has a link to a gh2 hacked or unhacked moderately budgeted indie feature, please post link.

I use both the GH1 and GH2 all hacked to there best potential and they are a great tools to have at anyones dispossel. I film also with an Epic, Red one mx and Sony F3 and they surley have their place in certian productions. There are to many reason to say why the higher end cameras can produce better overall images. And most would justify their price range and advantages. But the most important thing is using the right tool for the right job. Beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder.

your right, the canons have spent more time in the spot light, they were first to the party which was their biggest advantage, everyone went crazy, myself included. the gh2 is the dark horse and i like it that way.

I think the Barbie cam is still hands down the best value for your money.

Haha. Just ordered the GH2 this morning. On a truck from B&H right now between New York and DC. Might get delivered tomorrow. Looking forward to it.

the gh2 has had plenty of time to get its feet wet, but not a single peep where a high end project is concerned accept a bunch of random testing, to my knowledge. Not one film festival block buster made mention that I'm aware of. I would like to pick one of these up I just need to see one or two completed projects to help push me over. I am however liking the look of the gh2 hacked over the af100 and even the fs100 for that matter.

This trailer at 240p is more cinematic than anything ever filmed on a GH2 :)

Cinematic to me has nothing to do with the overly sharpened, dark, washed out, pastel tint scenes everyone with a gh2 keep posting. Get those things out in the light of day and lets see if they can pop with the simplicity of color and light that makes images truly cinematic. To me super sharp bondi-blue images in the shadows or at night have nothing to do with cinematic.

This is partly a dig on the GH2 craze and partly a challenge to show us the money! Show us the chrome of life with all it's highs and lows. So far from what I've seen the GH2 hack phenomenon is a specialty tool for the dark and dreary :)

I remember the GH1 got some pretty decent exposure when it was first announced, people were really excited about it and then disappointed once the banding and compression issues cropped up. The hacked GH1 corrected a lot of the problems, but it never seemed to get any wider traction. And I haven't seen the same level of discussion for even the stock GH2, let alone the hack - it's kind of strange. Canon really is just about synonymous with HDSLR in the wider community, it seems like. But hey, it just means those of us who are clued in have some kind of secret weapon up our sleeve, I guess.

I'm not sure that anyone looking at the GH2 is considering shooting 65mm film as an alternative.

The thing that attracts me to the GH2 is the clarity of the image while seeming to still hold decent latitude. The Canon DSLRs hold the latitude, but the clarity leaves me wanting. Plus the aliasing and moire...

The higher up you go, the options are obviously much better. I just don't see anything else within the DSLR range creating an image as pristine as the hacked GH2 right now.

Well I just recently got the camera and have only made a few videos in the last few weeks, here is my Vimeo channel http://vimeo.com/user8831239/videos . Still have lots to learn haha, but damn I am enjoying this camera a LOT. Next week, I'll be finally attempting a video with a short story.. we will see how it goes!

I always takes this simple example in photography. Mr X buys the latest greatest $ 7000 Nikon d3x or Canon 1 ds camera and the best lens and stays in his not very interesting surrounding, pixel peep all day long. Mr Y, has a good eye about photography. He buys a decent camera in the Canon 7d range and take a trip to Egypt, a safari to Africa, Europe Paris and Venice, etc In the end who has 99% more chances to make better pictures.

This is unfortunately the state of photography and surely videography today. I guess that Mr X when he will see the photos of Mr Y will say that at 100% magnification his pixel is better.

My example can be interpreted in two ways, because I have been defending the gh2 because I feel it is superior technically to the Canon (ala 1ds vs 7D). In the case of photography the technology is mature, if someone cannot make great photos with his 7d, 60d etc then he is the limiting factor, not the gear. While in videography we are very far from it. It is not as if you have a 18 megapixel raw 14 bit ,12 stop DR file to use.

Back to my point, if you can't understand what is called production value .... In this case of this video, some of the magical setting in India, we are talking palaces, aerial shots, actors etc. It would have cost 10 times more to do the same in America. Just the cost of labour would be much bigger, having 50 or 100 people to put there best clothes (no need of wardrobes in India ;-).

If somebody cannot comprehend all these thing, how it adds that value to the image, then it will difficult for this person to do beautiful images. A well lit canon dslr image will always look better than a bad lit gh2 or red image. This is why the camera is only part of the image, but I prefer 200% to use a better camera with everything equal. This 99% percent sure that this video projected at 1080p resolution would look better to much better shot on a hacked gh2.

Yes but it looks so good,i have not seen GH Footage as good,if what you say is true they could have made it with an I Phone.

I am sure that a well lit scene in certain circumstances (no shallow dof) will look very nice with an iphone. I had friends who were amaze when I do photoshoot in studio when they took some snapshots with there phone. Because the lighting was very nice.

The gh2 has been launched 1 year ago. I had to wait about mid year for it to be readily available and the hack to be here. You could say that the gh2 has been available for let say 9 month, it true potential (hack) has been out only the last 3 month. So I guess it is a little early to see it in Canon had a world/market to its own for the last 3 years. It was the tool for a true revolution in the video film industry for the last 3 years. As such it has got a lot of traction. I could say that to todays standart the Canon cameras (except the 5d because of its vista vision sensor) have the lowest image quality than the rest.

Now the gh2 has an uphill battle against a hdslr juggernaut that the Canon has become. More so that even its parent company would prefer 200% that all this mojo behind the gh2 would be for its Af100. Somehow, with the launch of the 1dx and if this tech (proper down scaling) goes into a future 5dmark3/7dmark2 price range perhaps the gh2 will never have the time to grab some significant market from the Canon.

It would be nice if someday somebody like you who shoot red, could just bring a hacked gh2 with them on a shoot and just point the two at the same scene for 1 minute. I have countless people saying that they are even inter-cutting with red etc but it would be nice to see something someday. The more people say that without showing anything the more people are thinking gh2 fanboyism in action. Just stating thing without any fact just to push there brand. I am sure the hack gh2 will be beaten by the red or F3 etc... but I guess that margin will be not that much. Imaging how all these thread as this one would be useless if we had this kind of test.

I find it strange that anyone would pick the gh2 over the f3, especially with s-log, Go to Timur's vimeo channel and watch the s-log footage in Vegas, it's holds the highlights like no other camera other than the Alexa. It's simply beautiful. I have a gh2, I like it alot, but it's no where near the f3 with log. it really isn't.

I don't need to hold highlights for my situation, we shoot in a controlled set, and my lighting director and I create our highs and lows
