GH5s? New low light monster?

Indirectly yes but directly it is related to signal to noise ratio and bit depth in processing. Theoretically with no noise and high bit depth processing you could get extremely broad DR in a tiny processor(pixels) Obviously practical applications are the limiting factor....

The rumor is this is a new sensor... much lower resolution in exchange for better high ISO performance. Rumor is also it'll lose IBIS last time I checked.

NO! that's a main sell of the GH5... always a caveat I guess...

where is this no IBIS rumor?

I guess we'll know Monday... don't see why it would have to lose IBIS

The rumors list enough features to make one wonder why they would have left out IBIS off the spec lists if it is indeed included with the camera. So no, it's not directly stated that it doesn't have ibis, but...

I think it will have IBIS. Charging $500 more for a lower megapixel cam with no IBIS for the sake of better low light doesn't make sense unless they added some great feature not yet listed.

If there is no IBIS, then that just limits the lenses that can be used, a drawback, but it's not a death sentence. Plus, with widespread use of gimbals, I'm not sure IBIS is as much of a "must have" as it once was. I'd much rather get better low-light than IBIS, if I had to choose. YMMV.

If the specs are correct, this might actually have a lower crop factor that the GH5 (think back to the GH2 {I think...} which had an oversized m4/3 chip which used the extra area to maintain image circle diameter when cropping to different aspect ratios).

If the "rumored" specs are correct, then let's divide the supposed effective pixels of 10,280,000 by the rumored 'C4K' size of 4096, which gives us 2510 (rounded) for an aspect ratio of 1:1.63. Compare this to the regular m4/3rds ratio of 1:1.33 (which gives 4/3rd sensors their name) and you'll find that the sensor would have to be larger than the video portion of the GH5's sensor - assuming they still keep a 21.6mm diagonal which is another way of adhering to the specs of a 4/3rd sensor.

Of course, now that I've made your brains hurt I could also say it is just as likely that a) this is not technically a 4/3rds sensor, and is actually smaller, or b) these supposed specs are wrong, or c) this camera upscales from less than full-raster to achieve 4096x2160.

I actually hadn't thought of that! I was just making an observation that, based on my interpretation of the specs provided, it doesn't appear to be a 'standard' 4/3rds sensor size. However with rumors there's plenty of room for error - we have no idea if these details are even solid at all!

I've never done much research on how the IBIS system works in so can't really predict what effect a wider sensor would have on the ability to implement IBIS.

Comparing the GH5 and GH5s side by side from the leaked images, it looks to me the same sensor size / shape

^ That basically kills the "video-shaped sensor" idea, but just because I found it interesting...

4096x2160 is 1.90:1 (not 1.63), with a total of 8.85 Mpix

"Standard" m43 is 17.3x13mm, which has a diagonal of 21.64mm, and as long as your diagonal is not bigger than that you can keep the same mount and lenses without any issues at all.

With a 1.90:1 aspect ratio and keeping that same diagonal, the sensor would be 19.15x10.1mm. This gives you a horizontal crop factor of 1.88x, instead of the usual 2.08x. This does sound familiar, I don't know which GH_ it was but I've calculated this before.
Also: add a speedbooster and you go to 1.335x.

GH2 has a multi aspect ratio sensor.

Yeah even the worlds best photographer would not take photos of two different cameras at totally different times and get the angle, orientation and lighting exactly the same each time. That is clearly a doctored version of the GH5 photo.

Although I'm not really sure why this photo is all that important to begin with. We kind of expected it to look very similar to the GH5 since it is a S version of the camera. The photo of the camera with a few red pieces really doesn't tell us much of anything. We are 99% sure the camera exists so seeing it doesn't really do much even if the photo was real.

For sure...very common with all rumored cameras unless the photos are clear and real pictures of the new model.

We'll all see it tomorrow!

4/3 Rumors are saying the GH5s will not have IBIS.
Unfortunatley I think this rumor may be correct as there was no mention of IBIS in any of the specs circulating.
Also there has been no mention of better AF which is somewhat worrying.

I find it hard to understand how Panasonic can charge $500 dollars more for this camera than the GH5
without IBIS and improved AF. Maybe the low light ability and DR will blow me away?
4/3 rumour say the new sensor will be manufactured by Sony and will be multi-aspect, with features designed to compliment the EVA1's dual ISO.

I really hope we see improved AF as well as lowlight and DR gains. Time will tell !

Maybe the sweet spot is those who have not bought into gh5 or EVA and intend to use a gimbal when necessary.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that photo was a little fishy. The 2 things that seemed very off to me were the matching grain patterns and the fact that the red 's' label and the red button were less blocky and a little softer than the rest of the photo.
