GH5 GH5s Ex Tele Not Working

Hi, I am trying to use the ex-tele function in video on the GH5s. For the life of me, I can't get it to work. I have a GH5 and it works fine with that. I thought maybe, because of the lower resolution sensor the GH5s may not be able to do ex tele, but the manual says it does.

Anyone able to get ex tele to work with GH5s?

Are you sure you are not in one of the following modes where Ex Tele Conv will not work, page 148 of the manual:

Not available in these cases:
•This function is not available in the following cases:
– [Toy Effect]/[Toy Pop] (Creative Control Mode)
– When recording 4K photos
– When recording with the Post Focus function
– When [Quality] is set to [RAW]
– When [HDR] is set to [ON]
– When using [Multi Exp.]
– Motion pictures size is set to [C4K] or [4K] in [Rec Quality]
– When a frame rate of 150fps or higher is set for [Variable Frame Rate]
– When [4K Live Cropping] is set

Thanks Chris! I was in 4K! And when I switched to HD I was in VFR! And the PDF of the user manual I have doesn't have that info -- doesn't even go to page 148. Turns out - there is a 2nd manual for Advanced Features that I didn't have.

It makes perfect sense that there's no ETC on the GH5s. It's only a 10 mpixel sensor and only 8 in 16:9 modes. Effectively a pixel for pixel image. Without more pixels to crop into, it can't do an ETC function in 4K.

how would it work if the GH5S sensor is already exactly at 4k resolution? Just the nature of the GH5S with a sensor exactly 4096 pixels wide means you can never get more than 4096 pixels wide from a crop. There is nothing left to crop.

The GH5 can do 4k ETC because the sensor has 5184 wide pixels. It has a little extra room to crop the sensor to pull out an exact 4096 wide middle portion of that 5184.

This is exactly as designed and it would be physically impossible to get 4k ETC from an exact 4k sensor. You are already getting a 1:1 pixel readout from the camera which is the entire point of the GH5S.
