Ken you have confused me what do you meen by shots[the stills?]you cant access the vimeo https://vimeo.com/217303644 ill try again. In the film its an RX10 clip followed by GH5.

Chris, I just looked at your video. I threw out the first set of clips since the focal lengths were so different. In the second set of clips, In the second set, the GH5 appeared sharper. I gave a very slight edge to the GH5 in the 3rd set, but it was very close. In the last set, it's a tough call. However I do think this shows you how much sharpening is applied to the RX10iii. Now that you've upped the sharpness in the GH5, both videos now appear much closer.

I do think, in general, you're overexposing your clips. I tend to shoot my outdoor material with a -1/3-2/3 drop in EV. I've even gone lower depending on how much I want to preserve highlights. To my eyes it results in a sharper, more detailed video that's less prone to blowout. Your shots seem to be of low contrast and that too can give the impression of lesser detail, especially when overexposed. Are you using zebras to judge exposure?

There are no blacks in that shot, the darkest areas are around 50 IRE while at the same time there are blown outs highlights.
Something is wrong here, possibly a combination of incorrect color correction error and extreme profile settings.

It is certainly not a natural profile with neutral contrast settings that is used here!

Cary, it is odd. His shots all tend to be very low contrast and nothing like what I experience with the Natural profile, certainly at the default settings of the Natural profile.

Strange it was on Natural setting and contrast on neutral,Ken the first clip was misjudged, the aperture was F8 i was under the impression its best not to close down too much.

Chris, this video was shot entirely using the default settings within the Natural profile. Look at the difference in contrast & pop. Granted I'm using a different lens and the subject material is not the same, but there is a huge difference here and I just can't understand why your results are so different. I'd almost tend to assume it's the lens, but I've seen so many other videos shot with the GH5 and this lens, and yet the results are quite different.

Very nice!

What lens did you use?

Edited to add: Oops, I need to learn how to read the description!

"Shot with the 14-140 Panasonic lens"

Ken the 14-140 lens is different than using the 100-400mm, but it looks like raising the sharpness right up improves things, today after a quick look wildlife footage i took looks more like i expected,i will put some on youtube later in the week.
But Ken https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KF3iwdFi01I&t=677s has a fair bit of pop as well.:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Chris, I'm not saying the RX doesn't have pop, but I like the GH5 image so much better.

I've just received my GH5 and after multiple comparisons with my G80 (sharpness 0,-5; NR 0, -5), the image is indeed softer, especially with telezoom like the 45-175.
Maybe the G80/G85 sharpening is more aggressive.
However, the GH5 retains more details in low light, the G80/85 noise reduction is much too strong.

Raise the in-camera sharpness on the GH5 to +5 and you'll probably have comparable degrees of sharpening. The sharpening of the G80/G85 is much more aggressive than on the GH5. Since the G80/G85 is more consumer oriented, that's not a surprising approach. With that said, I don't think you'll find a higher resolution in the G80 than the GH5. Resolution and sharpness are two different things.

I think you're right.
Do you own both the GH5 and G85 ? If yes, do you also think the G85 sharpening is stronger than on the GH5 ?

Yes, I did have a G85, but have since sold it since owning the GH5. I did find the sharpening higher on the G85 than my GH5. That's generally how they set more consumer oriented cameras.

My GH4 was noticably sharper than the GH5 i have with my 100-400mm even with sharpness at max on the GH5.
