GH5 Available for Pre-Order at $2k, amazing features.

well thats a bit more noise than what I was expecting. (perhaps I'm expecting too much)

There really does come a point where any camera really should be using lights. That place is dark and I bet a lot of cameras would struggle there. This is about the worse type of shoot one could ever be on for a paying client where the quality would be judged based on normal Realistic values.

Shotting in this environment without lights is just a really bad excuse. If I had a paying client that wanted me to shoot this and didn't want me to use any lights I would tell them to go find somebody else to do it. I doubt I would be missing out on much financially if I turned this down either. Clearly a m43 camera is never going to win any low light benchmarks but I think we do need to be a bit realistic of what to expect out of a camera in a real world situation. A low light camera is not an excuse to shoot without lights.

Is the GH5 going to be a low budget dream of grab it and shoot with out much concern about lights? Absolutely not. Then again I wouldn't be caught dead using any camera like that.

All cameras suffer when the ISO cranked and not just the noise. Contrast, dynamic range and color rendering are greatly sacrificed when the ISO is raised and should only be done as an absolute last resort and not as a norm.

There rant over.

The more I look at that clip (and the 'original' from Vimeo) there is something off. Its way way too compressed and noisy.

Most of the shot is still greatly underexposed and this pretty much kills the camera because it is being used in the absolutely wrong way in the absolutely worse conditions one could ever put a camera through while being lazy and not using any lights.

This sample should be an example of how not to shoot unless one wants to win an award for the worst looking video possible. Sure the GH5 sucks there but I would argue a lot of cameras wouldn't exactly look acceptable to the eyes of a client in that situation.

Made me laugh!

Is there any ability to evaluate the GH5 4k 10-bit 4:2:2 clips that are being posted on Youtube if they are reduced to 2K HD compressed clips? I wondering what the point is in posting 4K to Youtube? Is it useful or meaningless in terms of being able to evaluate the GH5?

[edit] This post is almost completely re-written, so NorBro's response may not make sense. Apologies to NorBro.

In theory and in practice, it's common to shoot in higher resolutions and master in lower ones for better quality (it's arguable). People may also treat their footage in post, and decide to work in a 2K/HD timeline for better results (reframing/stabilization/etc). A lot of the samples in this thread have been 4K though?

Many have created and continue to create awesome content with the GH2/3/4, so I think it's safe to say that talented professionals will be able to do the same with the GH5.

For any in Southern California, the best GH5 "Touch and Try" pre-release event will be at Hot Rod Cameras with a tentative date in late February. If you missed one of the earlier events at another dealer, or even if you went- you'll want to sign up for our mailing list to know when the even will take place and all the details. We are going to strictly limit the number of attendees so you won't want to miss it.

Newsletter Sign Up is at the bottom of the GH5 pre-order page

Hey Danilo,
Do you really need to take a single post per video and essentially create an entire page of posts to your work ?
Couldn't have put all of this in one post ?

lol, it's not his work. He's just been updating the thread with new links he finds everyday for people to see new footage from the camera. It's a good thread to scan through a lot of what's out there if you're interested in the camera.
