GH4 GH4 with Factory Audio Fix Has 70 dB of Dynamic range !

Unofficially any GH4 camera with a serial number "higher" than WE4FC will have the factory audio fix.

i.e. WE4FD, WE4FE, etc...

The camera I bought and tested with has a serial number that starts with WE4HC.

Cheers, this makes the camera an option for me again!

So, I am one of the early adopters and even with DMW-MS2 in Shotgun mode I hear noise even though there should not be a noise as stated by Panasonic. I have been angry and the decision to buy the DMW, but yesterday I was happy I have it.
I used Tascam with 2 mics on board to get interviews. Anyway in some shots the tascam was too low, the levels were like -40db. But then I checked what the DMW-MS2 had recorded and I was suprised. In a crowded area people speaking etc, the shotgun mode picked up the people in front of the cam good. I got most of the stuff in -6db range. And Im also suprised that in noisy areas nobody hears the small hiss anyway. So yeah, without the DMW-MS2 I would have been screwed.

Just wanted to share.

Hi.

Just wondering if there are any updates on the buzz as of March 10, 2015.

I have been contacting and writing everyone I can about this issue. What's surprised me most is that major camera stores seem to know far less about this issue than anyone on this page. For example, I've been in correspondence with B&H hoping they'd have the inside scoop, or just be able to make that direct contact to Panasonic that I can't. Finally today they call me back to say that: the camera works with the panasonic mic, the problem is the jack and that one can send the camera in to Texas. As for whether the problem has been fixed in the new run of cameras - nada. Same with the major camera store in Canada where I live.

So I rely on you folks.

An earlier post on this page suggested unofficially that any camera with a serial number higher than WE4FC did have the factory fix. Any further information on this? As it stands that's the best information I have.

Interetingly, when I asked B&H if they could assure me of a camera with a serial number higher than that they said they couldn't. By the sound of it my order would just be sent to some distant warehouse, and they have no way to contact it to ask about simple things like serial numbers. Ah!

But thanks again to all of you for the information I've been able to glean from this page.

So WE4GC____ is good?

Yes, that's what I've heard but Panasonic hasn't officially documented this audio buzz issue or the factory fix for it.

My GH4 camera has a serial number that starts with WE4HC and it has by far the best audio recording ability of any DSLR/Mirrorless camera I've used.

I am pretty certain that Panasonic considers this a non-issue at this point in time. The cameras that have been shipping since last August no longer have this problem.

If you have camera that's exhibiting this "buzz" problem, I would look back in the "audio buzz" thread from last year that had the posts that state where you need to send your camera to have the hardware fix applied. You have to pay for shipping, but the "hardware" fix was covered by the Panasonic warranty. Hopefully this repair can still be made at no charge.

I live in Toronto and bought my GH4 from Henry's last September, and the audio has been flawless with my camera. The Henry's salesperson told me the exact serial number of my GH4 camera before I bought it, as I wanted to be 100 percent certain that my camera had the factory audio fix.

Anyone else regarding their serial #/audio? Has anyone got a decent Panny rep they can get to formally clarify?

Hi.
I finally have received something back from Panasonic Curomer Care/Customer Relations Canada. I'd asked about both the buzz problem and if fixed what serial number to look out for, saying I was waiting for this confirmation before purchasing the camera.

Here's what they said:

"Please kindly note, we do not track the serial numbers that we receive from the factory. However, the audio buzz problem was fixed back in the summer. We have been sold out of GH4 almost every month, meaning the stock turnove at retail is very quick. There is a very low probability that you would purchase a new GH4 from rtail with this issue."

So, I guess I can finally risk buying a GH4 and just to be sure I'll check its serial number to make sure it is later than WE4FC.

Thanks all.
