Finally after waiting almost 2 months I was able to buy a GH4 camera with the factory audio fix, and from initial tests it sounds better than I ever expected.
Doing a quick noise-floor test with my Sound Devices MixPre-D mixer, I'm getting a noise floor reading of -70 dB RMS, which is 7 dB better than my GH3 or the previous un-fixed GH4 camera. This is better than the Zoom H4n portable recorder, and it means that there is at least 10 dB of audio "safety" range when recording.
i.e. you could set your GH4 volume levels 10 dB too LOW, then boost everything by 10 dB in post, and still have a great sounding low noise recording
...I haven't figured out what the best input signal level is for the GH4, but I expect I'll have this figured out within the next hour.
Woo hoo. Very happy with these results.
