Try to go higher. Like 1250 and 1600. Expose accordingly. I seem to get cleaner results at those iso. There must be a reason why those sony a7xx slog implementations at high iso. Noise n these must be one of the reason.400 and 800.
Couldn't agree more. That is patently false. I know of no terms of use or other contract that users are violating by using publicly available features of publicly available hardware/software. This did not even require a hack. This is how Panasonic delivered the product. The onus is on the manufacturer to protect a feature that they want to limit. If i bought a car that was supposed to be limited to 100HP, but Ford forgot to put on the limiter and I got 150HP, is it my responsibility to not use the extra horsepower? Nay. I say this as a paying customer, and someone who accepts that Panasonic has every right to charge for this feature. They screwed-up. This is actually the last link in a long line of screw-ups with this feature. It's almost karmic.
Leaving the NR at 0 instead of -5 mitigates the issue a bit. The higher the ISO, the more noticeable the issue, which also seems to indicate it is a compression artifact. (more noise, harder to compress.)Those pink magenta "macroblocking" has been discussed also in the fb forums. What ISO settings is this?
Yes, im doing the tests at default 0 and 0.Leaving the NR at 0 instead of -5 mitigates the issue a bit. The higher the ISO, the more noticeable the issue, which also seems to indicate it is a compression artifact. (more noise, harder to compress.)
Sorry, but we will have to agree to disagree.
Inagine this, you are a new owner of a GH4 and you know nothing about the vlog paid upgrade. You scroll (in the app) through the picture profiles and you see vlog. Will you write to Panasonic to ask them to send you an invoice?

Why is V-Log on the GH4 being looked on by many as the holly grail? Seems like a whole lot of work in post.
Who said that Panasonic owes us something?
I've tested internal vrs external 10Bit.
Just applying Pannys Varicam LUT and Alexa LUT.
4k timelines and out to 4k master and 1080 master
Internal is garbage. Most smooth greys show this magenta pink garbage. Useless.
10Bit is what the VLOG is for. Works fine. No magenta or pink. Still bands though in certain situations.
Do this. Film a candle in a glass like this. Internal and external. then you will see why the internal is not holding up well.

Interesting that you chose to use the word patently, because that is the issue. A patent is a license. Legally, you need the license to use Vlog commercially. It's not theft to possess it because it was mistakenly made availiable, but, licenses for it were not. Which is why Panasonic can and will disable it if you send your camera in for repair. +1That hole in mobile app can actually do more good then harm to Panasonic. People will try it out, get used to it and when app or firmware will be updated or will get tired of it's limitations (zebra etc.) will eventually buy it.
