GH4 GH4 shipping in the US now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You think Adorama or BH gives a crap about people complaining here about not getting their GH 4 this afternoon? They don't give a single damn.....

Actually, we DO care about customer satisfaction, very much indeed. However, we can only ship what we have; we get them out the door as fast as we possibly can, and regret deeply the inconvenience and frustration caused to our loyal customers, due to delays over which we have no control.

As far as I am aware, Thomas is NOT employed by Adorama - but I am.....

Adorama Camera is a retailer, not a manufacturer; we receive our shipments from one of the manufacturer's distributors in the US. So this is how it works……

We place an order with the distributor for a number of units, based on experience, that we believe we will be able to sell within the first few weeks. The distributor advises the manufacturer, who - when they have sufficient pre-orders to make it worthwhile - will ship to a fulfillment center locally. The fulfillment center is responsible for worldwide distribution.
Bearing in mind that as a retailer we are at the mercy of the manufacturer to produce sufficient units (and they in turn can only do so when they have all the component parts available), the fulfillment center to organize the allocation of the units they receive to distributors; the shipping companies, the weather, the import and export authorities, the distributors within the US, the weather (again), is it any wonder that the poor girl trying to give you an email response has absolutely no idea exactly which date Adorama will be able to fulfil an order?

Oh, and I forgot to add; it is rare with any new release that we get an ETA for any incoming shipment, nor do we know how many units will even be in that shipment until the guys in our warehouse unload the trucks! As far as I am aware, Thomas is NOT employed by Adorama - but I am.....

Firstly, your very long defense is tantamount to advertising and seems misplaced at an independent, non-commercial forum like this.

Secondly, you're strangely leaving out the predominant component of the delay: religious holiday.

Thirdly, and related to that, there certainly were communication problems that could have been coordinated better. Adorama has practiced a zero-tolerance policy for saying nothing more than "not available yet," and they have also gone way too far into C.Y.A. orbit by saying, for the past few weeks from several different encounters (this is really true), estimated delivery is mid-May. Ultimately, building a relationship with your customers is a question of "getting real," rather than reading scripts. Is Adorama amenable to seeing this as a learning experience to improve its customer relations? The super-sized font of your signature suggests it.

No one has contended that you're a "bad" company. Just that it's a free market, and when you don't deliver, there's probably someone else who does -- and the vitality of forum exchanges is that we can share information about who's delivering right now.

Interesting view; there was me thinking I was sharing my knowledge of the process, in orderr to be more transparent! I've been a member of this forum since 2008, and have a presence on over 650 other photography forums, blogs, Flickr groups and shopping sites.
As an Independent Consultant for Adorama, my role is first and foremost support and advice to the online Photography Community. All my credentials are highly visible across the 'net.

When you contact the CS Team, you are speaking or emailing with someone in a Call Center, and they do not have the information you feel you need. ONLY the Purchasing Department hold this information - but only if, as I already explained, they have been updated by the distributor or manufacturer (and even then, dates can slip if, for example, there are hold-ups in the distribution chain). That is why you will only ever receive the same answer - from the call center.

Many less scrupulous retailers will state that they expect to receive a shipment on xxx date, in the hope that customers will place an order. If that date passes with no sign of a shipment, well, they figure you aren’t going to take your chances cancelling and getting onto another retailer's back order or pre-order list. "Mid-May" sounds to me to be a pretty fair response

Personally, if I was in a similar position, I'd always place pre-orders at more than one retailer - one that doesn't charge until a unit ships, obviously - and if I receive a shipping notice from one, then cancel the other(s)

BTW our relationship with UPS means that the Passover / Easter Holiday closure will have had no effect whatsoever on any expected delivery date to our warehouse.

There are many excellent photography retailers, and we recognize that the Adorama policy may not suit everyone.
The Adorama philosophy is to under-promise, and hopefully, over-deliver.

Why are some of you coming down so hard on Anorama? Lets see you run a mega camera store! I bet the ones here coming down on Adorama can't even run their studios. I've never had a bad experience with either Adorama or BH Photo. Just so happens the Gh4 was released over Passover and Easter, WHEN THOSE CAMERA STORES SHUT DOWN. And if you don't understand that BH and Adorama shuts down during Passover and Easter, then you are just straight up a plain rookie. I've ordered 10's of thousands of dollars between Adorama and BH and neither of them have EVER let me down.

SMH! Some of you guys need to learn a bit of patience. Whiners.

Yeah this thread is getting out of hand - they've failed you because a pre-order camera is shipping a few days late? Really?? Get some perspective - it's only a camera! Did they withhold your food for a week? Take your house for a week? Not only is this beyond their control, it's simply ridiculous the demands that some are making on here.

I pre-ordered from B&H early on, and mine shipped out this morning and will be here Friday. Sure, I'd of liked to have it earlier, but big deal - I'm only going to do some minor tests with it the first week or two. And it's not like I don't have other cameras to shoot with in the meantime. Anytime you pre-order you're taking a risk that the product won't ship on time, or won't reach your reseller first, etc. If it's that important that you have the camera NOW, then buy something that is readily available and in-stock!

Historically, Adorama has been the last of the mega camera stores to obtain stock of newly introduced models. So whenever a new model comes out, you're most likely to be able to find one at a independent camera store or smaller chain (e.g. Samys camera in Los Angeles, Texas Media Systems, etc). Then a week or two later B&H and Cameta gets a sizable chunk in and buyers who didn't preorder can snag one up before they sell out within a day or two. But Adorama will get just a tiny trickle in to sell some preorders, but not enough in to fill the non-preorders. So Adorama loyalists who have checked the Adorama website 4 times a day since mid-April will likely have to wait until late May to find a day when the camera is available. Like right now the Adorama website says "late May/early June" is when they expect more GH4's. Adorama is eccentric in other ways as well such as in regard to shipping and product return policies...read the Yelp reviews about Adorama to find out more. I'm not saying anyone should avoid Adorama - I myself bought a big screen TV from them, but if you are looking for a newly released high demand camera that just hit the streets, you're not likely going to score one checking the Adorama website 4 times a day

My UPS guy just dropped my GH4 off so I now have the battery on charge. Here is a photo with Voigtländer Nokton 25mm f/0.95 and Rode Stereo VideoMic.

unfortunately I haven't settled on the GH4 or A7S yet..

Try to get "Hands On"
I have spent a huge amount of time pondering the two cameras.
First, I noticed how tight the grip looks on the A7s. The D600 was like this and hurt my hands.
Second, I do not wish to invest in Sony glass when I already have all I need for the GH4
Third, the recording time is limited and actually 0 for 4k unless you buy an expensive recorder.
Forth, it looks like the A7s is going to be priced double the GH4.
However, I hate to pass up a super High ISO FullFrame Camera.
But, I could pick up a D3s for that and I already have that glass.
