Hallo guys,

i'm in front of a big decision to take; i'm about to choose my next camera for Video shooting and my doubts :
GH4 or D7100 nikon?
I like Gh4 cause the 4K but i wouldn't know what kit lenses should i go for; Could you help me?
I'm passing from HDV cameras and Nikon d90 and D5200 to the next level

Many thanks and i really appreciate your help guys

One minor advantage of the GH4 over the D7100 is the ability to change aperture while shooting with automatic lenses.

Kit lenses: 14-140, 12-35, 35-100, 7-14. Or use the Olympus 12-40, 40-150. Lots of other options as well

Totally newbie in the GH4 world guys....The thing most pushes me on GH4 is the 4k resolution....but i'm alittle bit scared as i tryed the d7100 for a week and i was amazed
Thank you for any kind of suggestion you'll give me guys

Hi

I've just bought a GH4 and have only tested it around the house and have had a few "wtf have I bought this for?" moments. Then I see some of the great films that others have produced and my faith is restored. Coming from larger cameras, it feels small I my hands and I'm wary of dropping it when fiddling with buttons but that all changes when I get it on a tripod/monopod.

When I take the larger cameras out, I get funny looks and people generally edge away - maybe that's just me looking shifty but I'm hoping that the GH4 wont draw as much attention and let me do some proper guerrilla filming surreptitiously.

Regards

Well, the GH4 can take any Nikon lenses you may have, so that's helpful - but you do need a Nikon --> m4/3 adapter. The m4/3 mount is more versatile than the Nikon mount, so your lens choices are greater with adapters, but obviously there are fewer native lenses compared to companies like Nikon or Canon that have been producing lenses for decades. On the other hand, the nice thing about the m4/3 is that if you end up not liking this format, you don't have the same huge sunk costs because it's easy to go back to Nikon since you still have all the Nikon lenses. For native kit lens I like the Pana 12-35 f/2.8 lens, but you can get fantastic options like the Sigma 18-35 f/1.8 in a Nikon mount, that way you can still use it with any APC-S Nikon body, add a SpeedBooster and you've got a fantastic lens to get you going.

GH4 is by far and away the best DSLR for video. Beats the Nikon and Canon offerings easily*. Sony is the only other camera that comes close to offering the same power.
My only complaint with the GH4 would be it's poor lowlight ability. Aside from that you can use just about any lens on the market with this camera via adaptor, also you can choose to get a speed booster and gain a whole stop of more light.

Kit lenses would be Panasonic 12-35mm/F2.8 (H-HS12035), then Panasonic 35-100mm/2.8 (H-HS35100).
Other suggestions would be picking up a speed booster.

*: Shots 4k in camera, bitrates up too 200Mbits, 4k can be converted to 10bit 4:4:4, WiFi, E-Shutter, Video specific design and button layout, $price$.
Just to list a few reasons that make the GH4 a stand out choice over the others.

Not familiar with the D7100, but the GH4 rocks. In addition to other features listed above, 96 fps in 1080 is pretty cool.

For video works the GH4 is miles ahead of the D7100, in photography the GH4 is not a slug either but the advantage goes for the D7100.

The best lenses for the GH4 are the ones that suit your shooting style, lighting, subject matter and budget. For me as a nature videographer I am very happy with the Panasonic 14-45, 45-175 and the Olympus 60 macro and newly added 75-300.

Wich adapter do you suggest guys? I saw on amazon from 15$ to 50$. Thank you for helping me in the choice between pana and Nikon

The best adapter you can get is the Metabones Speedbooster Nikon G to M4/3, because allow to emulate the S35 field of view with one stop of light added to the sensor.
By example:
A 50mm f2.8 lens on the GH4 normally act like a 100mm f2.8
With the MetabonesSpeedbooster the same 50mm f2.8 will act close to 75mm at f2.0 almost s35mm equivalent
You gain a wider field of view and one stop of light.
Is great but $430
I have used the Fotga Nikon G to m4/3 too as cheap alternative and previous to the Metabones and no problems whatsoever for $25 on Amazon.

Don't discount the less expensive Panasonic and Olympus lenses they perform very well. Although the 12-35 and 35-100 are the gold standard they will cost you over $2K.

Another option to consider is upgrading to the Nikon D750. Doesn't really have the attention-grabbing specs of the GH4, but it does put out a very nice 1080p image, and is a much better stills cam to boot.
