GH4 GH4 firmware 2.0 released

2.35:1 or 2:40.1 built aspects would have been nice

anyone know if one can jump strait to 2.0 bypassing 1.1?

I am seeing an increase in the effective overall bitrate of 4k footage (mp4 and mov, using MediaInfo). With 1.0-1.2 it was rarely over 80-82Mbps, now I am getting up to 96Mbps (@25fps). This might imply an even better image quality.

Also, maybe it's an impression, but it seems that the whole OS is a lot snappier. When you turn it on it's instantly on. It was quick enough before but it was taking that one second or so before it was ready to shoot. I have almost empty memory card at the moment but for now it seems that playback is also smoother. When you were jumping from one 4K clip to the next one there was that delay seen, now it's almost gone.
It all maybe due to the fact that it's fresh memory card, will report once I will fill it up. I would like to know if that audio lag got fixed.

Now, a downside, quite a big one. It seems that is a lot, A LOT noisier. Unfortunately, I haven't got two clips that were shot in exactly same conditions, but I am uploading a clip shot now at iso 800. You will see what I mean...

No, like I said, I cannot prove it as I haven't got two shots with exactly the same settings in exactly the same conditions. What I can do is upload a clip and you will judge it by yourself. Maybe a case of specific lighting, or I just haven't noticed it before. I've shot it extremely fast, I will do it properly a bit latter. For now just have a look at this one.
It's in line for converting, but once it will be ready (in about 40 minutes) judge it by yourself. Look in the right bottom corner: all that noise dancing around.

Anyone else having trouble finding the 4k 23.98 mode? When I switch the system frequency to 24 (cinema), it still only has the 24.00 option. In NTSC I only see the UHD resolution options. Tried under both MP4 and MOV...

Best news here is true 4K at 23.976. That'll save me a lot of annoying turning off / turning on of the camera while shooting, just to switch between 4K and VFR, or in-camera timelapse (my three most used functions)... and custom C1 / C2 / C3 settings not carrying over as they should between the different refresh rates.

Nothing earthshattering, but it's nice that they continually fix annoyances like that.

edit -- just installed 2.0 on my GH4, and there is no 4K at 23.976, in either of the .MP4 modes! Just UHD. This is false advertising.

Is it just me or does there seem to be slightly less lag on the HDMI output? I also notice less lag with audio when monitoring with the (rec sound) setting (instead of REALTIME).

Nice to hear that. I found that whole OS is a lot snappier. Could you confirm that, or is it just my impression?

FYI neither of my GH4(s) would take the update when using Sandisk's 64GB 95MB/s cards. Tried an old Transcend 32GB Class 10 & they both updated fine. Had the exact same issue last time I updated the GH4.

Tried two different Sandisk cards & two different MacBook Airs (OS 10.8.5) on two different GH4(s).

Bern, since you have 2 GH4s you could upgrade one of them to the new Firmware and compare the two side by side. Many 'impressions' here but you could answer most of them 100%. A noisier image worries me a bit....

Also, regarding RAW output on the GH4 : http://www.eoshd.com/2014/10/interv...-plus-anamorphic-aspect-ratios-firmware-v2-0/
