Hello,

There are many gh3 vs Gh2 vs 5d mkII video's out there for video. But how about the stills, can somebody take a gh3 and pull the exact same picture with a canon t2i, 7d, ...

Cause the photography ability of the gh3 is the only thing holding me back for buying it.

So respect to the person who makes the test, which will make a lot of us happy.

Cheers

I haven't tested it, but all the reports have indicated that the GH3 is an excellent stills cam unlike the GH1&2.

well from what I can see in this picture, The iphone just doesnt cut it. This looks good on your small smartphone screen. But if you are looking at it in full ress full blown out on a 24" monitor. It does not show much detail. Could be export settings though, not sure in this case. But this picture btw is just all about lighting, and some photoshopping.

Pic I took with my GH1 and 14-42 lens:

yes so I have heard, but it would be nice to see for myself with some hand by hand examples made by 2 cams next to each other same settings, same lens. Even preferreable downloadable in raw, to see how far we can push it in post.

Cheers

You can always rent them from lensrentals.com and do whatever tests you like.
Yes this can be a solution for me, but if someone is planning to do the test themselfs I rather wait out. So I can save up some bucks. At dayprizes you rent dslr's, you can buy a old lens.

Cheers

If you want to do astrophotography, I believe the longest exposure you can get on the Panasonic GH cameras is around 2-3 minutes. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm not sure what the longest exposure is on Nikon or Canon DSLRs but I believe it's much longer.

THe Gh3 has a bulb setting.

I feel the Gh3 can hang with the 5dmk3, especially with proper processing of RAW files. While the 5Dmk3 is a better lowlight camera, why is everyone so concerned with lowlight and high ISO? Are you all Vampires or something?

oh good to hear. Well high iso and good in lowlight is quite important unless you want to lit every thing you shoot. Sometimes you do not have the time, gear, or money do to do that. Then the high iso and good lowlight features kicks in. But thanks for your answer, now I am convinced buying a gh3. Too bad not one shop in belgium or the netherlands have them in stock already. :(

You're right, it does but I don't think it lets you expose for more than 3 minutes. Not a reason NOT to buy one but something to consider if you do want long exposures.

Is this really an issue? I'm trying to think of any kind of situation where you need an exposure longer than 3 minutes, and the only thing that comes to mind is astrophotography. But that's easily solved with images stacking, no? http://www.optcorp.com/product.aspx?pid=432-3253

I think the GH3 will be fine for rivaling current APS-C cams from Canon or Nikon in stills mode. It will also probably outperform them in video mode. Nevertheless, the 5DII still is an amazing stills cam and if my main focus was on people/portrait photography I'd choose it over MFT or APSC-C anytime, just because the picture "feels" so nice. Just my 2c.

I just took a bunch of photos this afternoon on the GH3. Geez.... it's horrible compared to my 5D3, 5D2 or even the 60D. The photo quality might not necessarily be so bad but the operation of it is so clunky compared to Canon DSLRs. I'll stick with using it as my video camera for now....

????. I have an mk2, an mk3 and the gh3 and I find that the Gh3 can hang with both of them.

Let's see the results...
