GH3 GH3 vs canon dslr for photography/stills

Can you elaborate on why its so clunky? Is that just a matter of familiarity with it?

It might be a familiarity issue. The first thing that bothered me was the focusing accuracy. I tend to use the joystick on the 5D3 to select my focus point or do focus/recompose. The GH3 doesn't really work in the same fashion although I honestly haven't read through the entire manual to try to figure things out. It also has this issue where the exposure doesn't look like the preview on the screen. Not sure why that is, but my exposures were all under a stop or two roughly from the preview on the screen. Maybe I'm just not used to it, but the Canon stuff just works for me. Even the NEX-7 that I have works a lot more intuitively than the GH3.

????. I have an mk2, an mk3 and the gh3 and I find that the Gh3 can hang with both of them.

Let's see the results...

I'm not saying the IQ is worse. Honestly, I haven't tested it fully yet. What I'm saying is the functionality of the camera as a stills shooter is a bit disappointing for me in comparison to the Canons. I don't know if you can quantify those as results.

first, read up on the focus options of the Gh3. Changing the focus points is really easy (its even touch screen). AF focus is very very fast, if not best in class.

Image wise, it's real hard to compete with the Mk3. But the Gh3 for a MFT camera is no slouch.

I'll definitely take a look at the focusing. I've tried most of the options already. Touch screen is difficult for me to use on the fly. I shoot weddings and need to move the points very quickly while my eye is on the finder. On the Canons it's very easy to do so. I'm looking forward to using this camera more for my video work.

I didn't really think this camera could compete with my 5D3 for stills. I bought it for it's video capabilities and think it's an absolutely stellar camera for that purpose. I'll just use it to it's strengths and not expect it to do everything. After all, it is less than half the cost of the Canon with a much smaller sensor. I really like it, just not for stills. The OP asked for some samples. Maybe I'll try to take some this weekend and confirm for myself what I think it can and can't do.

Very sharp image and I like how the skin tones that are lit well are rendered. The shadow side of his face has some blue/green tinged shadows. The image is very sharp and overall looks great. When the Metabones Speed Booster comes out for this camera I might have some different feelings, but I still like my 5D3 images better for now. It's a very capable camera and maybe I just need to get used to how it works but I don't think it'll take the place of my Canons for my wedding work just yet.
